I absolutely get why Macca would want to leave , but I really struggle to see how this is good business, even if he only had a year left on his contract. Have said this several times before but the centre of our defence was, along with Pandur, practically the only part of our team which did well last season, and Macca, alongside Jones, played far more games in that defence than anyone else. So now it looks like we are letting go two players who are rarely injured and relying on 2 CBs who are older than either of them (and one of them very injury prone) plus Charlie Hughes who is great , but who also missed a chunk of games last season through injury.
And for what it's worth, I've always rated Macca, who has had abuse on Twitter from people not fit to lace his boots. Lacking pace yes, but his reading of the game, and ability to constantly be in the right place to clear a cross, block a shot, etc, was as good as any CB we've had in recent years, in my humble opinion.

 

Ive always been very pro .... but this is an absolute Clusterfuck...
