I suppose on the face of it, it’s a good move for Macca. He might end up challenging for the play offs, rather than another likely battle against relegation.
My guess is we've agreed terms and signed a contract but we can't register him until after the appeal.
But we're not under a registration embargo, just a fee restriction, so either we're asking him to hang on until we're sure we can't pay for someone better, or we're just wasting time. I suppose it depends if he was going to fly out to Turkey and join the squad
There's a lot of talk that Macca needs first team football and will get it elsewhere but not here. Which is fine but you have to ask, why are players that are supposedly not good enough to get first team football here good enough to get it at teams better off than us? Same with Jones going to Boro. You have to wonder why other clubs rate our players higher than we do.
Id they We've registered Phillips and Ajayi, but not the two involving fees. I do find it interesting that the EFL refused to sanction a deal with McBurnie over wage affordability, suggesting their reach is going beyond a simple fee restriction.
This is what I don't get. The vetoed a deal for McBurnie according to yesterday's 1904 pod. Maybe they're more concerned as a result of the current dialogue than they were previously?
Don't forget manager too. 3rd place wanted our manager and pretty quickly too. Serious questions need answering
Not that I’m complaining that they refused to sanction signing McBurnie as I think we were offering £40-45K-a-week which is insane. However, it does suggest they have more supervision over our transfer activity than a blanket restriction on transfer, loan and agent fees, like you said. It does seem like they’re enforcing some sort of ad hoc salary restriction on us as well.
Definitely seems to be more scrutiny over affordability. Suspect they're concerned that current transfer activity wil affect our ability to meet outstanding transfer commitments.
Are they allowed to intervene to that level though? I don't ever recall hearing about it before with other clubs. We're seemingly being stopped from signing players on a free, when no formal rules are in place to say we can't. We could end up with an instance where we're eventually almost forced to sell some players before signing freebies, but the delay could mean we miss out on them, and we're **** outta luck
