Or perhaps people have finally seen how easily they are filched of their hard earned money. What does a shirt cost - £55.00, or thereabouts ? The sponsor must think " what mugs " the public are, to walk around advertising THEIR product, and paying for the privilege of doing so. I just don't get it..
I don’t think that sponsors think that fans are ‘mugs’ - I’ve been associated with 2 companies who have had their name on shirts (rugby and football) - in both instances we wanted to both support the club in question and to raise our profile
I fully understand, and respect, your post, but I have never purchased a football shirt. The free advertising of a product, Company, etc., was anathema to me. I was tempted with the 100 year anniversary shirt, the one with the gold trim. That was such a beautiful shirt.
It’s not really free for the sponsor - they’ve paid for the privilege. With the rugby jersey - we were better known in East Anglia and the South West of England than we were here in South Wales. The exposure on BBC Wales and S4C changed that. As for the football club, we wanted to support our local team and be seen to be putting something into the local community. As for the fans, they want (exact) replica jerseys like their heroes wear: a ‘win win’ of sorts!
