The interest from Liverpool will almost certainly have been there since before the bid. It's been hanging out the clubs arse all summer and unsettling the player no doubt. 1. Liverpool had an interest in Isak for quite a while. 2. Newcastle don't really need ekitike as much as Liverpool. The end result is that Newcastle don't have the Liverpool interest in Isak problem anymore. That's a powerplay result not ending up with the player you didn't really want as much as Isak.
He's a quality player not a he'll do. He's a 1 in 3 striker. As was Wilson when we signed him. The similarities are startling. The biggest difference is injury status
I mean, I'm not saying it isn't possible. Just seems unlikely. Quite an extravagant plan if we never intended to buy him. I expect the bottom line is (as with Chelsea & Pedro) we were simply outbid, or not deemed by the player as the most attractive option.
Good job it’s not your money or decision. Going into this season with Isak and Osula would be madness.
Biscan had it right. We enquired about Hugo , then Liverpool asked us about Isak , we said no, so Liverpool then moved for him. Too rich for us, as usual,
Buying any old ****e will impact the club beyond this season brains. I'm essentially saying don't buy just anyone like a 29 year old at a high price for example. If the right players available great, otherwise keep your powder dry. The majority of fans are so desperate they'll take anything, but the people paying won't thankfully..this is why we don't see anything happening at times.
As per earlier im as against Wissa as I am DCL. Would be a dreadful decision. Good player but again where is the scouting?
Fair enough mate, but I'm really just saying I hope the club are ambitious or nothing. DCL is free so it's kinda not too bad at all, but once the clubs coughing up 5 year dough the player has to be better than average ie 'he'll do' Psr is so ****ing irritating at this point
The thing I'm getting at isn't the claim I'm making being right. I'm saying the media have floated this idea Liverpool have played an extravagant plan. I'm simply highlighting the fact Newcastle might have, but that isn't floated. The fact is Liverpool failed to buy Isak, ended up with second best, and the media have found a way to claim that as a tactical victory over Newcastle.
It's hard to keep having sympathy with the PSR point. It exists, we know it does, we've even been heavily burned by it yet here we are trying to throw millions at fairly established players. It's like losing your livelihood, shopping in Fortnum & Mason then moaning because the foie gras is too expensive. Look at Forest, they have high value players on their books, Elanga cost them £16m, Murillo £12m, Aina was ****ing FREE. I could repeat this for B'mth, Brighton, Fulham, Brentford - even Wolves have found some very good players, Neto, Larsen, etc. Yet here we are potentially asking if Wissa is available? What the actual ****ity are we doing?
Ps I can guarantee that if the situation was reversed the media would say Liverpool forced Newcastle into buying second best with a power play.
Yeah I totally get that. The media will always paint it in favour of the big 6. Like where is the "Liverpool fail miserably to sign Isak" headline?
Yep that's the crux of the situation... I won't like I shouldn't care, but it's really boiling my piss because it's all the time.... The media urinate on any club outside the top 6 and taste cartel bumhole 24/7 24/7 ****housery
It doesn't really matter what they could be, they just had a decent season and their low cost buys are now with 10's of millions. Do you know how much Wissa cost? £10m. I just do not get why we are trying to shop in Harrods when we have an Aldi budget and a "board" from Lidl. We've got as many senior execs now as we had under Ashley.
I don't think the budget is the issue mate it's just a pecking order and I would imagine Newcastle are now quite near the top for strikers. Chelsea and pool are unlikely to be after another, City are not after one, man United bought Cunha and trying for mbuemo, Arsenal bought Gyokeres, Tottenham spunked money on Solanke, so maybe they might still want one, but otherwise we're next in line surely?
It's just something some Newcastle fans just cannot get into their skulls, but if a player has the choice to join a big 5 club with a history of success and Newcastle then there's only one outcome. Once Newcastle, Tottenham or Villa become the options it's a closer situation isn't it. I don't mean to sound aggressive, but there's definitely some Newcastle fans that think we're a bigger pull and club than we actually are.
