Think it was Roland who was delighted with Elanga a week ago, proclaiming him a better signing for us at RW than Mbeumo would have been.
Didn't come across right at all - I think Elanga is a really good signing, absolutely - all I meant was we need more of him, and less of this chasing players who don't want to come or who have better options, that's all! Sorry, the Man U failure reads quite harsh - to be fair, EVERYONE has failed at Man U in the past few years! I am very happy we have him, like I say I just want more like him and to see an end to the wild goose chases.
Be interesting to see how Elanga does with you guys as he’s thrived in a forest team who sit on the edge of their box then spring forward with him, Hudson, Gibbs white leading counters to supply wood. In majority of games, he won’t get that kind of space to run into and will have to add a bit more guile to his game against the bottom half teams as you’ll have more possession and less space. Where he might help you thrive is against the better teams where you will naturally play more counter attacking as will have that space to exploit and help you break away and get up the field more.
Apparently Brentford now asking Man U for a total package of £70m for Mbeumo. Wow. He's good, but not £70m good.
This was my concern. Our issues the past couple of seasons have been against teams who do this to us, or who sit deep in the so-called low blocks. Against that you need someone with more guile. Straight line runners are great when you're trying to push up the table, but it's the extra quality that we miss. We have Gordon, Barnes, Murphy and now Elanga - counter attackers. Where's the Salah, Palmer or - at the lesser end of the scale - the Mbuemo, Mitoma, Damsgaard that we probably need? They come at a premium - but as I've said countless times, we need to find them when they're £20m-£30m.
Dude, 6/4 means absolutely **** all. That's just bookies rinsing a market. Isak to Liverpool was about that, maybe shorter, not long ago. When it gets down to about 1/4 it's usually done, but even then Mbuemo to Man U has been at that price for a month.
Mind if Elanga is £55m then £70m isn’t much more for Mbuemo and looking at the goals he got last year compared then probably (from Brentford’s pov) worth that.
BBC now reporting that we're 'accelerating' a move for Wissa, with developments expected within 24hrs.
Or others come in for the planned targets but on more money. We are now on plan C, after Pedro & Ekitike.
