To be fair to Lincoln he was getting inconsistent minutes at best. I think it was him that finally stood up and put in a good delivery at a set piece as well, setting up Hughes for that header vs Wednesday when we couldn't buy a good chance, let alone a goal. For me, it was that goal that kept us up in the end. We needed that win more than ever at the time and it was a mini shot in the arm, just enough for us to limp over the finish line. I said after his first appearance I liked the look of him, but for one reason or another, and he's not alone in this - he never really pushed on. The whole team didn't though really. I think Lincoln, Joseph, Crooks and even Amrabat were hard done to in a way - joining a team in January that were pretty much in disarray and constantly being in and out of the side. All of their form was 'poor' to 'inconsistent' at best.
Swifts legs may have gone but he's A Modest Proposal, and of course he's known for his Travels, he'd Lilliput the effort in.
To be fair, not sure it'll be that much of a shame. One of our better players, but current circumstances aside, I don't think he'll be missed that much. Same goes for Alzate.
I think that's a bonkers take if I'm honest. Alzate was absolutely quality most of the season and Puerta works incredibly hard and actually had some end product with his passing. They go and as it stands we'd be starting with Slater and Shelvey as our midfield two, that just gets ran through constantly.
I would say it's a shame to miss out on the profit from selling him this window (which we were surely going to do) but knowing Acun he'd have been sold for a loss anyway
I'm really looking forward to seeing a fully fit Crooks this season. Seemingly, he's just the type of midfielder the manager wants.
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic believes the MKM Stadium is the perfect place for striker Matija Frigan to take the next steps in his career. City are in talks with Westerlo over a loan move for the 22-year-old Croatian frontman, who played for Jakirovic at Rijeka as the Tigers look to bolster their attacking ranks. Owner Acun Ilicali had hoped to sign Frigan on a permanent deal but those hopes were put on ice earlier this month when the club were hit by a transfer embargo, and then fee restriction by the EFL amid concerns over the club's spending. While City can now sign players on loan and free transfers, any loan deal for Frigan would mean the Championship club cannot pay Westerlo a fee, though that's not expected to be a problem. "Yes (we want him)," the City boss told Hull Live. "He's an excellent striker. His work rate is very high. A very good left-foot finisher, good with the header, good with the left and right foot, good in the spaces, he's a good target man. "I think this is the next step for him. This is perfect for him because if it's coming from Croatia from Rijeka, then it's maybe a bigger step for him, but now after Westerlo, I think he's ready to play. Yes, of course," he added when asked if it was a deal he would like done quickly. Meanwhile, the Tigers expect to find out on Thursday the date when their appeal over their three-window fee restriction will be heard. It's hoped City have some clarity by the end of the month on what they can and can't do in the transfer market.
Our midfield was such a mess last season - players in and out of the team and no one having a consistent run, When on form Puerta was the best of the bunch, to be considering selling him in the first place is a stupid idea in my eyes. Now we can’t sign players for a fee it’s even more galling that he might not be here next season. A number of people are talking about Drameh and Giles being our full backs next year - I think that’ll be a huge mistake if we don’t improve our midfield. It’s nowhere near good enough in attack or defence. Shelvey is not the answer to any of it.
Alzate was good. He was an outlet that was calm and composed, happy to receive the ball even with men around, and he regularly danced his way out of tight spots. Unfortunately he didn’t do much in the way of killer passes forward to stretch the play and get us on the break, and that's why he was good and not great.
He patently doesnt want to be here. Even in interviews before the end of last season he was talking about moving to 'better' clubs this summer. If we make a profit and you would hope we do, he got us out of a the hole last season with his performances. I personally thought Mattazo looked better than him.
I thought he was incredibly effective but didn't play enough. He said at the end of the season that he'd been carrying an injury for the last few weeks which had limited his minutes, which made it all make sense to me as I previously couldn't understand why he wasn't starting every game given that he was such a penalty box threat from midfield and no one else was.
