Yeah but Odddy, it's far easier to get in and out of Porto than it is Wembley!

i went to the old Wembley 4 times in the space of 6 weeks in 1993 - FA Cup semi v Sheff Utd, league cup final v Arsenal, FA Cup final v Arsenal and the replay 5 days later. Seems a long way away now but I did get one thing off my bucket list - singing Abide With Me before my team played in the cup final at the old Wembley stadium <ok>
Now that brought a tear to my eye .....

    Fecking Jehovah’s Witnesses

There used to be a time when the God botherers came around in couples and knocked on doors and people used to use colourful language to tell them to take a hike.

Then they stopped coming around in couples but the women would come around with children so that people would moderate their language when telling them to take a hike.

This morning, plain A5 envelope with a P.O. Box return address delivered by the postman. Contents: a printed handwritten letter from a lady at the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and a two-year-old 16 page copy of “Awake!” about bible bashing from JW.org. <doh>

Goddamn bible bashers cannot keep grovelling to their non-existent deities to themselves. :emoticon-0130-devil

The cheapskates at William Hill with their TV advert for their Epsom Festival offers.

They have used 29 seconds of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” because they do not have to pay any performance rights until it has played 30 seconds. Good times never seemed so good. <doh>

Well, it's not so much as a moan but when you take a look at the comments most of them make points for doing it and the reasons it wont...!!

Four-day week 'an overwhelming success' in Iceland

I must admit that the 4-day week dos sound appealing, to be on the same money as a 5-day week, less hours, more production of your work load. But us Brits are always cautious at something that sounds great but in reality isnt so follow it up then by asking whats the catch...??

I do agree that the world is becoming faster and is becoming more and more distorted in terms of those who have and those who don't, but you will always get that...

Anyway, its certainly food for thought...:emoticon-0138-think :emoticon-0126-nerd: :emoticon-0105-wink:

long overdue , to give a balance to life , but in the long hour , low wage , economic model favoured by the british state , don’t see how it can happen without huge upskilling and real investment in making production efficient .......

Well done Oddy. I was going to put a rant on about international football and how dull it is but I read the first 3 pages of the thread with a cup of tea in the garden and realised I’ve got **** all to moan about. Instead I was reminded of the great guys that were on here who are sadly no longer with us. Anyway off to take the dog on a long walk with the requisite number of poo bags <cool>

Terrible thing to have an economically inarticulate chancellor. If she says she can understand why Trump complains about his negative balance of payments with other countries then we're in real trouble.

Does ‘Horse Racing’ count as ‘Anything’ on the Horse Racing section?

They have got to be getting pretty desperate for revenue at Newmarket racecourses / The Jockey Club. They sent me an email yesterday inviting me to buy tickets for the 2026 Guineas Festival and 2026 July Festival at early bird prices. At the bottom of the email they tacked on a bit about buying tickets for September to November 2025 from £10.

When I look at the cards at Newmarket so far this year (no shortage of prize money; shortage of runners despite 80 racing stables within five miles), I cannot see any reason why I would bother to visit even if it was free to get in as I have to shell out £50 a day on petrol. If I had bought a ticket for the 2025 July Festival a year ago, I would have pitched a tent so I only had to drive there and back once; and spent the evenings in nearby pubs drinking saved petrol money!

Just a small moan about something that irritates me. I was listening to the radio (as I often do) and a caller was asked by the DJ what her plans were for the day. She started her reply with "So ....". Now there was no pre reasonining that led her to her conclusion as to what her plans were. It seems to be a spreading fad that pisses me off; enough for me to start talking to the radio

People who, having told them something, interrupt me when I'm relaying the same story to someone else, and finish off the story

Waiters who pass you a glass of wine, placing their fingers over the rim of the glass. I do not want to drink from a glass with their finger prints on the rim. The glass has a stem. Hold the bloody stem
