Ipswich losing their captain, Morsy, off to Kuwait for life changing money apparently. They're letting him go on a free as long as it is to a foreign club: https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/25314045.ipswich-town-sam-morsy-set-move-kuwait/ Hopefully that weakens them a little
Without paying close attention to Ipswich I thought Morsy was being phased out anyway? Or was it purely that he wasn't up to PL standard but is still plenty good enough for the Championship perhaps. Hopefully someone comes in for Hutchinson too.
Sounds like he’s their first choice if/when Mbeumo leaves. Not sure if he has a release clause like Delap, but money shouldn’t be an issue for Brentford with Mbuemo leaving
Morsy only missed five games last season. He’s a key player for Ipswich. Would be like us losing Downes for free. Ipswich are also losing Phillips (22 apps last season) and Cajuste (33 apps) as they were both loans, and Luongo (11 apps). They need a whole new midfield.
Presumably they aren't too bothered as they're letting him go for free despite him having a year left. If he was akin to Downes for us then that isn't happening even if he is a club legend.
They'll get his wages off the books, plus he's 33 so maybe they don't think he'll have the legs for a full Championship season. Maybe they just have a gentleman's agreement with him, I don't know. They've signed a replacement from Ligue Un already. They'll have a very good squad going into the season, no doubt, but losing several key players can always be a bit of a shock to the system.
