I have a lot more time for players who put in a **** tonne of work in the off season than the ones getting fat He wants to succeed and has the mentality to go with it Hope he does
Didn't he go on to produce the Carry-On's? 'Oh, stop messing about...' ..'Infamy....infamy....they've got it in for me...' Just two lines from the classic movies.....Not, they were $hit.
I'm hoping he gets played in his correct position this season. He's got a lot of work ahead of him, hopefully he finds his touch..
Were they bollocks, the dining room scene in Carry on up the Khyber is top class, you rough diamond. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
'Take them away, Matron'. For the thread whingers, City is a right carry on. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Nice to see Joseph net one, and a couple of the young lads putting in decent performances, already better then last seasons pre season under the Wally, and albeit against such opposition a striker in particular feeds off confidence, no matter who its against. Well done boys
I honestly think we should give all our players a clean slate this season. There’s so much talk of Joseph and Burstow being crap, but the whole team was poor last year. Let’s not fall into the trap of discarding players after they fail to impress immediately. This season is clearly going to be tricky and as a fan base we are going to have to be patient with the team. I’m even prepared to give Giles another shot.
Saturday will be a much better test but I enjoyed the game last night. Key take aways for me was, speed of moving forwards, crosses coming in and playing through midfield. Drameh was MOM, no way do we let him leave now (especially with Coyle injured) Giles did okay, a couple of really positive bursting runs. I think he's a week or two behind in fitness. CBs overall really solid. Jones had a good first half. Dillon had a case of the floppy wrist but the header wasn't that bad either. Shelvey can't move BUT he did spray a couple of really nice balls out to the wingers. Wonder how fit he is? I think much will depending on the embargo/who else we bring in but he can't be in the starting line up at this stage. McCarthy like many have mentioned did everything Shelvey didn't do, especially as he's a CB? Needs to bulk up but looks really promising. Brown needs to get a pass off earlier (was the same for Myers in the 1st half too but thats a learning curve if they're to step up) HOWEVER if he can carve a shot/goal even when he's done to much he could be one to watch. Solid from Slater as always. Decent goal from Joseph. Really should have had a second but took too many touches. Wins don't mean much in preseason but they can certainly lift the mood. Looking forward to seeing Puerta in the team on Sat as I think he's the closest to the energy and combative midfielder SJ wants, albeit not got the height SJ wants.
You would hope that Giles realises what a massive season this is for his career. If he shows the same lack of application and effort as he did last season, he is destined to drop down the divisions. On Joseph, I didn't see the match yesterday, but if he has bulked up a bit, as people say, he might not get bullied and be more able to hold the ball up and do more for the team attacking wise. My only worry is that he is not an instinctive player and seems to think too much and take too many touches. Funnily enough I think Burstow is instinctive and got a good touch but is very inconsistent. We need one of them to step up.
We scored the lowest number of goals of any team in the Championship last season (although not significantly less than any other team of the bottom 8 clubs). However we conceded the lowest number of goals of any team outside of the top 9. Our combined goals per game was the second lowest. Considering we played half the season with a self proclaimed you score 4, we'll score 5 merchant at the helm that was a pathetic return. We obviously struggled upfront. Pedro was undoubtedly our best striker and he only scored 6 all season. Joseph's total of none in sixteen games is obviously worrying, especially as he started in thirteen of those games but I'm struggling to think of any sitters he missed. A couple of opportunities that he should have done better with perhaps but those led to decent saves by the keeper. I'd say overall that he was starved of opportunities not that he fluffed his lines. Burstow made 31 appearances but only 8 starts - significantly less than Joseph. His return of 2 goals is poor but he got more chances than Joseph and should, I feel, have scored more. We shouldn't give up on either of them - but until we start creating more chances for our forwards, regardless of who they are, their returns are going to look a bit ****.
Burstow also played the majority of his appearances on either wing rather than down the middle, so that won’t have helped his goal return or his confidence. He has shown some good things but far too infrequently, although again, we don’t know if that would have improved with more time in his preferred position.
