Apparently Liverpool have offered Isak a huge salary. If true, I think we might be forced or sell you know. If the worst happens I think Ekitike is the absolute perfect replacement and we'll make some coin for other positions. My eyes told me Ekitike was already a top player and I've now checked sofa stats and the numbers are unbelievably similar.... In fact you could make a case Ekitike is a better player.
Whilst it’s obviously a shame to lose Isak, for north of £140m and what it does to PSR, then taking into account his injuries (Ekitike is a lot more robust), we probably need to go for it. I don’t think the Liverpool/Coutinho situation will be lost on the leadership team. I think it allowed them to bring in Mane, Alisson, Van Dijk, maybe even Firminho or Salah, I can’t remember (and don’t care, it’s the dippers), but what it meant was trophies and titles. If Isak is replaced with Ekitike, another forward, Scalvini/Guehi, another midfielder and Trafford then it’s a necessary evil. The biggest shame is that it’s Liverpool. Would’ve been ok with Barca or PSG doing it.
The fact that we even have a chance of keeping Isak shows how much we have moved on since the takeover. I am worried mind he might fancy it and if they offer him silly money he’s not going to say no. But he is under contract. Let’s just hope we come out of this with at least one of them.
I'm now of the opinion Isak will be sold and that's why we're after Ekitike. It juts makes sense unfortunately because of ****house psr rules. The toon army have handed Liverpool fans their arses on a plate on twitter by chasing them around getting arsy at the suggestion, but it's not beyond the rhelms of possibility... Do you agree?
That’s just what they say to see if they either back off or come back with a silly offer. We can’t really lose here. We either keep a player or we get silly money for him.
I've heard Newcastle are offering Isak a new contract that basically doubles his wages and extends his time here for another 6 years
Fair enough. We'll probably need to if we seriously want to keep hold of him. I guess it then impacts the overall wage structure, but that's going to happen at some point if we want to be serious contenders for regular top 4 spot.
That would protect both us and Isak. Hopefully this happens and quick so the rumours go away for another 12 months.
That’s a good point. Can a club speak to a player without their consent. Probably not. So it would be tapping up.
The news is Liverpool have said to us they’d be willing to break the transfer record IF he’s for sale, that’s it. The emphatic “he’s not for sale” doesn’t sell papers or website clicks. Im not going to think about it, it’ll rumble on but what will be will be. We clearly want a decent second striker. People just can’t get their heads around the fact we’re a CL club, have PL aspirations and want to be established in the elite. You can’t do that with players like Wilson and Longstaff. They’ll get it eventually.
We appear to be in some weird state of flux right now - we bid for Ekitike, Liverpool big for Isak, Liverpool fail with Isak, Liverpool join race for Ekitike. So basically Liverpool don't want us to have both. We by no means have to sell Isak to get Ekitike, it's just if we can get it done.
