Play up Farnborough How fortunate Portsmouth are to be playing Hampshire's finest club Though it seems like it's not the usual boring Gosport and Bognor because they're installing new pitches
Pompey will complete their pre-season programme by welcoming Dutch top-flight opponents to Fratton Park. John Mousinho’s side are set to host PEC Zwolle on Saturday, August 2 (3pm kick-off) – one week before the start of the new Championship campaign. It follows on from previously announced friendlies against Woking, Farnborough, Crawley, Reading and the Hawks. PEC Zwolle finished 10th in the Eredivisie last season and just missed out on qualifying for the European play-offs. Their most notable achievement arguably arrived in 2014, when the side thrashed Ajax 5-1 to lift the KNVB Cup for the first time. They then defeated the same opponents again a few months later to win the Johan Cruyff Shield – the Dutch equivalent of the Community Shield. Ticket information for this game will be announced in due course. Date ........................ Pompey got pre-season off to a winning start with a comfortable victory over National League side Woking at Kingfield Stadium. Adrian Segečić marked his first outing in a Blues shirt with a neat finish, while Paddy Lane also found the target after the break. John Mousinho opted to field a different side in each half, with most of his first team featuring, alongside a smattering of academy players and a couple of trialists. The visitors thought they had an early goal when Thomas Waddingham nodded home Michael Ani’s cross, but the striker had strayed offside. Terry Devlin then fired a shot over before Connor Ogilvie won possession and teed-up Josh Murphy to slot past the post. The winger quickly returned the favour and a fierce angled effort from Ogilvie was beaten away by Will Jaaskelainen. But the Blues did take the lead on 13 minutes, when Waddingham slipped a neat pass through for SEGEČIĆ to coolly stroke home. The chances kept coming and when Marlon Pack stole the ball from Jamie Andrews, another Segečić effort was saved by the legs of substitute keeper Craig Ross. And the Australian was denied by an even better stop on 32 minutes, with his well struck shot brilliantly tipped over the bar. Ross was soon at it again, this time preventing the ball from diverting into the net off team-mate Timi Odusina. Woking had rarely threatened at the other end, although former Blues forward Aiden O’Brien might have troubled Ben Killip had he been able to bring a dangerous delivery under control in the area. Half Time: Woking 0 Pompey 1 Mousinho changed the entire side at the break and one of the newcomers almost scored within 14 seconds of the restart. Paddy Lane brought the ball neatly under control and took it wide of Ross, but his angled finish struck the inside of the post. He had another chance soon after, but could not quite jump high enough to make a clean connection with Ciaran Martin’s cross. It was LANE who doubled the advantage just past the hour mark, though, racing onto Regan Poole’s incisive pass and bending the ball home. The chances began to dry up as the second half progressed, but the Blues burst into life again on 80 minutes. Teenage midfielder Chinedu Agu showed great persistence to win the ball and find Lane, who tried to lift the ball over Ross, only for the keeper to stay upright and make the save. Academy forward Dane Bailey then attempted to add to the scoring, only to see his attempt beaten away by Ross late on.
