I disagree with the idea that we’re all mercenaries. It's simplistic, devoid of nuance and ultimately cheapens us. Yes, obviously most people work for money, but that doesn’t mean profit is the sole driver. For example, I know tradesman who consciously avoid over inflating quotes, often offering discounts to older or cash-strapped people out of moral decency. I also know public sector professionals, highly skilled individuals, who choose roles that pay a fraction of what they’d earn privately, precisely because they’re committed to giving back to society in some form. To suggest that everyone is simply acting out of self-interest flattens the moral and relational dimensions of why people do what they do; and often is just an excuse of the super rich.
around 7m all in for a 3 year deal then, I think that’s probably the absolute top end of what I’d be offering but with the fee restrictions and our absolute need for a striker surely it’s worth thinking about, especially having gotten S. Mcburnie between Miller/Belloumi is a first rate attacking line in the champ.
with napkin math, its still much cheaper than say spending 4m on a transfer fee and then 30k a week its why he is able to ask for much higher wages i can also see the squad dynamic issues if one player is on much higher wage even if it actually costs the club less its all complex stuff
yeah I’m doing a bit of *** packet math but to me it makes sense but then it would I’m a fan and none of it is my cash lol
ultimately, to get a better player than mcburnie, its going to cost a **** tonne very good championship players cost so much these days, 6m+ and while the past is the past, he is proven to be a very good player in the championship, so theres less risk
I’m a bit of an old ary, definitely not a merc, more a well looked after Mazda RX7 and definitely in blaze red LoL….
Many many moons ago, I think I was about 20... I had an RX2 with the ****el engine. It was beautiful like **** off a stick. Everyone was envious. Then the engine went (seals) and whilst now there are people who fix them my option was to put a Ford Anglia engine in as it had similar engine mounts. Needless to say I didn't ..
I had an RX8 as did some of my mates, every single one of theirs needed an engine rebuild due to the rotary seals going but mine didn't. I used to squirt some oil in the fuel tank every time I filled up as this apparently helped keep the seals intact.
Irrespective of what's we've offered McBurnie his salary can't be judged in isolation, if it is £45k, that's one Giles and half a Omar.... I know what our team needs more
