think we all thought chelsea would get hammered, well i did anyway. why the feck do americans have to turn everything into a 'sports spectacular' and ruin it? i have tried to get properly interested in this tournament but it was simply football through the close season and filled some time, would love to see how teams qualified for it but someone did say the process was complicated, would hope it was a one off but the saudis and yanks will declare it a massive success...still, it will offer something to watch between seasons again.
Bad enough the players coming onto pitch individually, countdown to kick off , “ superior” player , “ cooling” break —- but couldn’t believe the “ in the blue corner “. etc as per boxing intro . Middle East and USA should be kept away from football
the 'cooling break' was probably the only thing i understood obviously but the rest i had already tried to forget, that 'ready to rumble' bollox and the stage set in the stands for the ahem 'entertainment' was pure hollywood. i can still remember the first world cup held in america when they wanted to change goal sizes and have four quarters instead keeping it all standard...they really do like to make their own rules.
Crazy tournament quite a few unexpected results. Was strange with no Dutch, Belgian teams or Scandinavian etc, not really a world club contest with some renowned teams left out, while other nations have 3 entrants, they do need different qualifying criteria. Not the first time someone has been sent off for pulling Cucurella's hair. That's 3 sly tuggers and 2 sendings off (1 the ref thought it was shirt pull) so far now. There's been a lot of unnecessary razzmatazz right from the opening ceremony, with all the dancers, the big FIFA letters on display with a crew in procession each sticking a club emblem in the designated holes, all the grandeur giving the illusion the competition has the same stature as national world cup and champions league. The player walkouts with introduction reminded me of the Olympic athletics track finals and the entertainment was like Superbowl shows. Next world club comp they'll each have nicknames and walkout music like the darts.
