In 1955 English football was going through an after shock of the Hungarian national team sticking 6 and 7 goals past England a few years previous.
Vasas the top team in Hungary came to England for a club tour. Tottenham, Sheff Wed and Wolves were lined up to play them. Considered to be England strongest teams with Wolves the team that would give them the lesson they deserved.
Vasas put 7 past Spurs and 6 past Wednesday.
Wolves at this point pulled out.
Step forward Hull City who were bottom of the second division who took the match. Fleet Street tried to get the match postponed worried that it was a slaughter waiting to happen.
City won 3-1 against the same line up that destroyed the previous 2. City only got the gig as they had floodlights.
City got relegated to division 3 and Vasas won the Mitropa cup forerunner trophy to the European cup.
Now I think there’s a good movie there.

I think that’s the friendly when Bill Bradbury scored a hattrick on his first start for City.
