Anyway, I see Mepham has liked a few bits on insta this morning (as has Jayden Danns btw) so I reckon it’s him on the flight!
I would be happy with Mepham back personally. Would still need another, but he is reliable in so many ways.
Aye he deserves to play. I work with an Arsenal lad and tossed this out there few weeks ago he reckons no chance they’d sell as he’s really well thought of. He’s an actual Arsenal fan as well goes games, obsessed. Take him and Ben White thanks . Got to be the best back up pair anyone in the world has that.
If he was available for a reasonable price (mid 7 figures) then I’d be happy enough. We could then go and spend bigger on a top class left sided centre half. Seems like they may think Seelt can have an impact this year so maybe it makes sense to have more options but perhaps a lesser pecking order. Just depends on if Mepham is willing to swap the stands at Bournemouth for the bench at Sunderland - rather than the pitch at a top end champ club.
Meps loved it here that was clear, but I’d wager he takes game time at his age. I’d be more than comfortable for him to be an option here.
Think it’s super price dependant so the dynamic may be interesting. Expect the cherries would have jacked the price early thinking that we’d value continuity. If we’re now clearly shopping in a different market in general - and not willing to go silly money for an older player who is low end prem and only has a year left - maybe they view a lower price as better than no deal at all .
Let’s be honest not one of us fans, unless we happen to have been heavily involved in professional football at a v high level, know nearly as much as those at the club paid to make decisions about the playing staff. Fan’s opinions are largely based based on their emotional contract with the club, and everything becomes black or white. If the club thinks rams dale is a fit for the club then imho he’s a fit for the club.
You can. But most modern pros want to see how big the trees are at the training ground before signing
For me, keepers are so easy to get wrong - and so tough to reverse out of when you do - that I’d always favour either growing your own or buying low and developing. I’ve not been 100% comfortable with any of our keeper stuff this summer because the stakes are so high. I’d be far happier taking a smaller bet and compromising on a different (perhaps less long term) profile. Ramsdale is all about the risk for me. I don’t like the idea of blurting one of our domestic loans so early but I’d be tempted to look at him as a loan with an option. If it’s a permanent, I’d be hoping that we pay a fair bit less than the price that’s being mooted in the press.
Medicals have been in Paris and Madrid I believe and players have signed without setting foot here. I’d imagine that’s the routine wherever players are from.
