Go careful, that kept Sinik out for eight weeks. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
They have some pretty decent players, but the issue there is that they aren't some random club with no support - they're one of the biggest clubs in Slovenia and taking their best players for nothing leaves them with **** all. Omar Rekik, Jan Repas, Adam Rasheed and Orphe Mbina are all pretty good (and Tetteh obviously), but I can't see it happening. Acun Medya has 74% of the ownership of Maribor, which gives them a majority on the board, but their fans are very passionate and I don't think having two sets of fans pissed off at you is what Acun really wants right now.
For years we have had a defence made up of unsexy but underrated domestic players who predate Acun and we've had a great defensive record conceding very few goals. Over the same timeframe, Acun has repeatedly replaced our whole front line by bringing in his players, generally much more flashy, international signings who've been paid a lot and yet we've struggled to score goals year after year. In fact, the more we've spent and the more players we've signed, the fewer goals we've scored. Despite this, people are cheerleading getting rid of those successful defensive players in favour of Acun's picks. I think it's the absolute last thing our squad needs. I also think it's crazy that people like Jones get more stick than someone like Lincoln who comes in with obvious links to Acun, earns a fortune and then can't even get in our team. But he's Brazilian and played for Fenerbahçe and Jones is just a boring old Hull City player so that's that.
this again just isn’t true, the flashy players do score goals and do well (Philo/Tufan/Miller/Belloumi/Delap/Carbahlo) the ****ing domestic duffs (Burstow/Joesph) have been absolute gash up top.
Moreover, I am pretty sure it is harder to attract players to Slovenia compared to England, so they would prefer to cling on what they already have.
what you on about if its £2m for jones, we have to accept it we are skint and centre backs is not where we are short
Not sure Belloumi and Millar deserves to be there, they barely played and it wasn't the most successful times. I think key is bringing physically strong players, speed, power at least they should excel at one of this even if they have a stellar name.
I'm probably being a bit thick here but why would we let players go when we are not in a position to use actual money for replacements. We could end up being a couple of injuries away from playing the U21s!
We probably do have to sell because of the finances. I just don't think people should be happy about it in the case of Jones and McLoughlin.
Fans apparent willingness to bin off Jones and Macca doesn’t make sense to me, our defence has always been good. It makes even less sense given our current position up **** creek sans paddle.
Centre Back is the single position we have an embarrassment of riches. Hughes, Jones, McLoughlin, Egan and Ajayi for presumably 2 spots. If someone is offering decent money for someone not named Hughes then it makes sense to take it, especially if that money means we get to hang on to someone further up the pitch.
Ajayi might be made of glass for all we know. Sell Jones and Macca and we’ve only got Hughes and Egan as reliable CBs and no competent LB.
So many games last season where Coyle got beat too easily by wingers and let dangerous crosses come into the box.
