Plant was quite a fan of the better Punk bands. He said in interview that he would have loved to be have been the vocalist for The Damned, as he thought their energy was incredible. He also said that, as soon as he heard them, the gig was up for Led Zeppelin...their day had been and gone.

Last night, on YouTube, I was watching a couple of serious musos listening to, discussing and playing the bass riffs of Neat Neat Neat, Peaches, GSTQ, London Calling, Psycho Killer and Going Underground.

The point was that Punk was readily dismissed as basic 1,2,3,4...three chord (at most)...thrashing...but it's a lot more technically involved than it first appears. I'll dig out a link.

Because there weren't enough reasons to be grossed out by Sharon Osbourne and her ghoulish attempt to get one last payday out of Ozzy

Good week for music in Cork! Joe Bonamassa headlined 3 nights of the 'Rory Gallagher' Tribute Festival and on a different scale then had the excellent Cork Pink Floyd tribute band at our local town theatre.

Personally prefer Bonamassa's rock catalogue, like Black Country Communion, but he is a stunning Blues guitarist and he received great plaudits from a very partisan audience! <applause>

I haven't reported back from the Forever Now Festival. Mostly because the thing dissolved into a bit of a fiasco.

All went well on the main stage. We saw Berlin (I guess the promoters like them, everyone else was as mystified as us at their presence there).
Followed by The Chameleons. I had seen them 40 years previously and that was plenty for me, but we were with others who wanted to see them...and we got a prime spot for The Psychedelic Furs, who were great...but no sax player...<wah>

Next, onto the 'Other Stage'. In truth, this was a quarry. Access and egress was utterly ****. We couldn't see the stage, let alone the band for the beginning of PiL. We got round it by leaving the designated standing area and watching, through a fence, on the rapidly overcrowding path between the 2 stages. PiL were ****ing great. The organisation was non-existent.

Next up The Happy Mondays. I'm not a fan. They were disinterested, **** and beset with technical problems. It was a blessing when it ended via the sound going down...again.

Next up The Damned...we waited...met friends...I got interviewed...and we waited some more. After one of the promoter's sound crew got an electric shock tampering with the bands mixing board (the main one went bye-byes during PiL, they were on. They did about 5 numbers...to be told that they had to come off.

They didn't come off. The sound stayed on for New Rose, then the promoters cut it.

Still they didn't come off. I love these guys so much. Despite the promoters playing Muzak instead, the band played the rest of their set to riotous cheering from the assembled crowd. I have no idea what they played, but the band kept waving the crowd on to greater noise levels and the band played as if their lives depended on it. They left to rapturous applause from all concerned. I lost my voice cheering them on.

TJ&MC suffered similar poblems, which almost ruined another set. By then, tiredness, frustration and the heat saw us leave before Death Cult played a bit of a blinder (by all accounts).

Fortunately, we paid £7.00 to park on someone's driveway, right next to the park and were away and in a Witherspoons 20 minutes later. I even drank alcohol...to remove the bitterness of not seeing the boys perform a specially reworked version of Curtain Call...<wah>

The promoters have a lot to answer for...that 2nd stage was ****ing dreadful and I won't be going back for anything where it 'operates'.

This week I saw the illegal Eagles , they did the Desperado Album tour 53 yrs old , close your eyes and it was the Eagles , which is no surprise as they play 4/5 gigs a week for 6 months of the year , good banter from the Bass player between numbers
Back when you had proper tickets for a gig I used to keep the ticket stubs in the LP sleeve , I checked out the Desperado cover and found a stub dated 1974 at Wembley pool cost £4.40 , Tuesday night was £37.50 plus booking charge for the Waterside Aylesbury

Jack Black possibly making a pitch for School of Rock 2.
Tom Morello's son on guitar, Scott Ian's son on bass and a 15-year-old drummer who's Youtube famous.

A couple of days ago, Paul Gray posted that The Damned were on the same bill as The Undertones (in Berlin)...and that he loved their set...AND IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT HE'D EVER SEEN THEM PLAY LIVE OR MET THEM!!!

As he's a fan of their stuff and they are big Hot Rods fans, the fact that they've never had anything to do with each other, is mind blowing to me. Especially as they're paired up again as the closing 2 bands on Friday at Rebellion.

49 years of avoiding each other, then playing back-to-back twice...in a month!!!

All the boys from the early days are playing nicely together. Captain reported cordially drinking in hospitality with Mr Lydon at Forever Now...and he's normally not got a good word for the bloke. All except for the Pistols and JR...no love to be found there.
