    BREAKFASTDEBATE.jpg

Good Morning. It's Thursday 10th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Newcastle demand £15m for Longstaff

Leeds pursuit of Newcastle United's versatile midfielder Sean Longstaff has hit the rocks, with the Tyneside outfit firmly rejecting the Whites' latest offer. Despite Leeds tabling a package worth £10 million, bolstered by a further £2 million in add-ons, Newcastle have dug in their heels, now demanding a £15 million for the 27-year-old.

Crucially, sources indicate that Leeds had already successfully agreed personal terms with Longstaff, suggesting the player himself is keen on a move to Elland Road. This makes Newcastle's resolute stance particularly frustrating for the West Yorkshire outfit. Longstaff, who is in the final year of his contract, saw limited game time for the Magpies last season, often finding himself on the fringes of Eddie Howe's plans. However, Newcastle had the foresight to activate an additional 12-month extension on his deal, protecting their asset and strengthening their negotiating position.

Leeds United's strategy this summer has been clear: to add vital experience and much-needed depth to their squad without overspending. Longstaff, with his Premier League pedigree and ability to cover multiple midfield roles, perfectly fits this mould. However, the disparity between Leeds' valuation and Newcastle's now seemingly firm £15 million demand presents a significant hurdle.

This latest rejection leaves Leeds at a crossroads. The Elland Road hierarchy must now decide whether to table a fourth, improved bid, potentially pushing closer to Newcastle's revised valuation, or to pivot their attention elsewhere in the market. The clock is ticking, and the need for reinforcements is pressing.

Interestingly, whispers from the North East suggest that any funds generated from Longstaff's sale could be earmarked by Eddie Howe for Coventry City's rising star, Jack Rudoni. Dubbed one of the finest talents outside of the top flight, Rudoni has attracted considerable attention. This development might offer Leeds an alternative target, as they "could do a lot worse than go after Rudoni themselves" should the Longstaff deal ultimately collapse.

Are Leeds behind schedule in summer recruitment drive

This is not the first time this season that Leeds have faced transfer frustrations this summer. Previous pursuits of promising young talents like Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki ended in disappointment, with both players opting to join newly promoted Sunderland.

Whether this string of near-misses is indicative of Leeds dithering, or merely taking a more cautious approach to stay the right side of PSR, is up for debate. The capture of Chemsdine Talbi (£20m from Brugge) and imminent arrival of Simon Adingra from Brighton has taken Sunderland's spending this window to £117.5m.

In contrast, Leeds have parted with just £30m. We can expect the 49ers to spend big on a keeper and goal scorer this summer, with Rodrigo Muniz still top of Daniel Farke's wish list. With only four new faces through the door so far this transfer window, Leeds appear noticeably behind schedule in their summer recruitment drive. This will soon be forgotten if they can bring in a couple of marquee signings.

    Milinkovic-Savic move unlikely

Leeds search for a new goalkeeper continues, though sources at Elland Road are now downplaying one high-profile target. Despite recent discussions taking place between Leeds and Torino, the acquisition of the towering 6ft 8in Vanja Milinkovic-Savic is now considered the most unlikely option,

Meanwhile, Olympique Lyon's summer transfer strategy could be significantly altered after winning their crucial appeal against relegation. A key player on Leeds radar is Lucas Perri, widely regarded as one of Europe's top shot-stoppers.

However, Perri comes with a significant caveat: a 50% sell-on fee owed to his former club, Botafogo. With Lyon still navigating financial difficulties, the question arises whether parting with a player of Perri's calibre, only to lose half the transfer revenue, is a viable or desirable move. This dilemma could heavily influence their approach to the market and their ability to reinvest elsewhere!

    Morning all,

Never mind all these potential new signings. I’m more annoyed we haven’t signed Solomon.

Looking more and more likely he’ll be staying at Tottenham.

    Big loss.

Why does it always appear that other clubs find a target go after them, sign them, job done. where as with us we see a target, bugger about for a month or so, lose them and move to another target, rinse and repeat.
I know it's not really like this, but it just seams so, most bloody frustrating being a Leeds fan at times

    Good morning everyone.

Newcastle want 15 million. We offer 10 million.

Milinkovic-Savic has a release clause of around £20 million. We don't trigger it and then say it's difficult to push through.

Hoffenheim want around £18 million for Anton Stach. We just get told it's difficult.

We are told Habib Diarra agents want European football for him which makes the deal difficult for Leeds. He ends up at Sunderland.

There's going to be nobody left to sign at this rate. Money talks and it seems we don't have any.

    Morning all

Are we behind with transfer activity, it's a weird one as I didn't expect us to sign a replacement reserve CB, so quickly, I didn't expect us to sign a competing CB so quickly and I didn't expect a reserve striker to sign so quickly.

I did expect an urgency over a LB #10 #9 #1 - We have only ticked one of those boxes - Milky pointed out the other day, you don't try and save pennies on your keeper, £20m for a good one is nothing, go and get it done, they are in short supply.

Considering we knew of our position, and our season effectively finished a month before everyone else (apart from Burnley) then yes we are behind.

Even if we get Longstaff, for me that is an upgrade on Rothwell and we still need three big names.

Absolutely, my no1 target would be a keeper, Milinkovic-Savic would do nicely for me, build a team around a strong keeper like him, and the rest will fall in place, ie doing this will build confidence from the back up throughout the team.
we are all used to what happens with a poor keeper in a good team.

    Morning

Great post Ell ... go and get Rudoni, he carried Coventry and even if we don't get him, force Toon to pay extra for him ... they don't need the money the fkrs, Leeds mustn't overpay

Sunderland are rolling the dice big time ... their issue is they are paying way above value for players, and if they go down they will have to sell at a loss to clear wages ... Le Bris doesn't strike me as a Prem level manager, and no amount of players will make him one

49ers are doing the right thing staying within PSR ... it sucks, but we know what happens if Leeds break the rules ... we won't get a light touch like Everton/Forest etc. .... we will get hammered

The problem is a lot of what we're discussing is based on hearsay, sources, the man in the kebab van queue etc. Chuff-all (rightly so) is from LUFC.

Who have we lost out on in reality? Just those 2 to Sunderland and if we deem that to be overpaying then why get dragged into it? Same with Longstaff. If we overpay in every position then we won’t have anything left. Better to negotiate well and possibly take longer but get better deals in my opinion. Also with Savic, rumours are he would prefer a move elsewhere so regardless of whether we pay the money he may not come anyway so could be that we spoke with the player, no interest so we move on. I don’t mind what we’re doing and will judge fully at the end of the window.

We all are getting frustrated but they will come. the club know we need players, we know we need players, other clubs know we need players.. but sooner or later we're going to have to make a move. Just don't think the plan of getting the bulk done for July 7th went to plan.
Players are back at their clubs now certain ones in the Prem will be told you won't be in the 25 then their agents will then be phoning X,Y,Z of there availability.
Lots of rumor's of Buendia again and a few others. Keepers I think its just a pass around in the media. there's Norway we are chasing about 8 keepers.
The board will have there main list and a fallback list. seems we are after a different keeper every day.
I'm frustrated but happy we are not falling to clubs demands.
If Longstaff has agreed terms and wants the move but the clubs cant agree a fee its time for him to dance a tune and throw a few spanners in.
Everything looks a mess on the transfer front but how much is that Media related by them winding up fans of false names and making it look a problem.
How many have we actually been in contact with i bet less than 15% of the 100% touted about over the last few month.

Same with any transfer window... it's only when the dust settles and it's all over can you assess whether you think its been a good one... even then when the season ends you likely have to retrospectively adjust your view. Many transfers are complicated by other teams interest, player/agent demands and the big one... selling team waiting til they have a replacement. There may well be a chain reaction on our 'bigger signings'.

Or we might just be skint.

I see a lot of people reference how satisifed they are with business so far which staggers me to be honest. I'd only heard of Bijol and time will tell if he is an upgrade. Why anyone would have any confidence that the others are good additions is beyond me. They might be good additions, but what are they basing this on? 2 guys with injury history coming to the end of their contracts may make them astute bargains but they're cheap for a reason. Gudmondsson? Left backs are in short supply... but there didn't seem like much competition for him.

We need a new style of play and players to gel. Pre-season is underway. Not many sides have made a big volume of signings but we are one of the teams that has to... and we want them in ASAP.

27 strikers the media think we are after its all clickbait rubbish. Then certain fans say why didn't we follow that transfer up why let him go there. WHY because we aren't even after them all lazy journalism coz they got nowt else to write. I could go on with Defenders and Midfielders we been after over 100+ players so the media say. yeah right.

I'm sure Farke said after his meeting with Marthe he was given assurances we'd be signing players in positions he'd earmarked we needed to improve,so not panicking yet.
Must say I'm a little disappointed we haven't got a new keeper in yet, we've all known for 12 months or more we needed better,so no excuse they hadnt already got a list and knew the costs.
