I'm in two minds about online gift lists for weddings/christenings etc. On one hand, the older side of me finds it a bit rude as you're basically asking for something, and I'd always just hand over a brown envelope with cash in instead. But on the other hand, I do see that you're at least buying something that is wanted/needed and will be used, rather than re-gifted, stored in the loft or sold on eBay, so not wasting your money.

Can't make up my mind. I guess if it is a young couple who need stuff for a new home, it's fair enough. If you're in your fifties and on your third marriage, a bit of a piss take.

Speaking of Wetherspoons, I've been to Cross Keys in Beverley twice in the last few weeks. Nice weather so the beer garden was understandably busy, but no ****er coming out collecting glasses and plates which attract wasps. Ordered from the app twice, and they got something wrong with each order.
They also put a beer on the wrong pump, so the Ruddles was actually Jaipur, which was fine until someone wanted Ruddles. Just a real ****show, worsened by people queuing perpendicular to the bar

Its one of my pet hates, staff not clearing tables in pubs and cafes, doesn't seem to happen abroad. The only advantage of the beer mix up is that you probably saving a few quid if you got jaipur and paying for ruddles :emoticon-0105-wink:. Don't get me started on queuing in pubs. It used to be every man or woman for themselves and became quite an art, getting served quickly. Oh and also don't mention pub apps. Fed up of going into a wethers and there appears to be 20 people behind the bar serving, but 19 are working on orders off the app and the other is off washing glasses. Aarrrgghhh!

They have no shame do they. I wish there was an option to send them a used tampon from the ladies toilet.

Walk into pub. Find table. Order drinks and/or food on App. Sit back. Chill. Order arrives in good time, served with a smile and good cheer. Effort and stress on your part? Minimal.

Walk into pub. Elbow way to bar trying to avoid the wrath of ‘roided up aggressive Chavs and spittle flecked Gammons. Eventually attract the attention of the one poor sod who’s drawn the ‘work the bar area’ short straw. Order drink. Now search for a table whilst avoiding drunken women on mobility scooters.

Your call in today’s ’Spoons. Live in the future or live in the past.

I really need to get out of the 80s. :emoticon-0100-smile. The reality though is I walk in, open the app. **** I didn't bring my glasses. Can I borrow yours love? Now, where is Guinness on here? ****, is it classed as a real ale on here, can't see it. Wait 10 minutes until a young worker walks past and ask them to find it, which he does in 4 seconds!

Pick your pubs , City Hotel staff tuned in and efficient - same evening staff in Kingston dopey and looking busy but not actually serving anyone . So I walk out and go somewhere more deserving . I don’t have to walk far .
A decent bar supervisor or decent training would sort it .

I remember years ago used to go in Gardeners Arms on Cottingham Road , when it used to be rammed on a friday night.
there was a barman in there who used to memorise everybodies position and would constantly update you of your position in the que, it was great.
bar would have 15/20 people waiting and no pushing or shoving cos everyone knew when they were getting served, dont make them like that anymore

Yes you don't get many like that anymore. Like you say, you knew your turn and quite often they would remember your order from before.

Everyone self policed it anarl. If the barman (barperson?) inadvertently tried to serve someone before you and you and they knew you were before them they’d gruffly say ‘he was first mate’ and you’d grunt a reply ‘cheers’.

    Well that sometimes happened.

And occasionally, if got served earlier than you should, you held up your hands and said he/she was before me. Actually, it happened alot more when it was an attractive lady!

A while back I was out in Beverley and we went in Kings Head. My mates round. 3 pints of lager, over £20. After that it was my round so I steered us towards Wethers. 2 pints of real ale and a lager with a couple of camra money off vouchers. It came to about £4.20. I felt that guilty I got the next round which was about a fiver. They have their faults but you can have a bloody cheap day.

The above dozen or so posts show exactly why one should never go to Wetherspoons! Yes it's cheap but as always you get what you pay for. I'd much rather have one decent pint in a decent pub than 2 in 'Spoons for the same price.

To be fair I’ve had some really decent pints in Spoons

Can’t stand the owner, but other than that the beer is often good.
Abbot Ale is a nice pint for example, as is the previously mentioned Jaipur

I tend to avoid some Wethers, the ones in Hull are in bad need of some renovation, particularly 3 Johns. But the Beverley one is actually a really nice pub. And Wethers are always unbeatable when you want a pint at 9am, not that I usually do apart from an away game :1980_boogie_down:

Yes Abbots is good, even Ruddles ain't bad and you can't complain when you can get a nice ale for about £1.50. I have not tried Jaipur but am in Beverley at the weekend so will report back <party>
