Brendan knows dam well we need players to even consider staying up and thats good enough for me. There is not one team from 8th to bottom who are safe by a long way. the league changes every week where some like wigan go on a brilliant run and then Bolton who cant buy a win at the moment, But you can bet your last quid that these teams will strengthen big time for the second and most crucial part of the season and if we dont follow suit then we will do a Blackpool and sink like a stone......It will cost us but will be worth it if we stay up...
Well said Kidderz. Totally agree on alot of things you said, but I cant see us spending anywhere near 10 million. IMHO, I dont think we will spend more than 3 million. Looking at the players we have been linked with, we are sticking to our principles, which we should do. Id rather the extra money put into the infrastructure of the club, acadamy, extra seats, backroom staff, parking and access etc than wasteing money on over hyped average 'premiership' players that demand £40,000+ per week and will bankrupt this club if we go down. We are doing things the right way, regardless of what Dai says
crcjack - I agree, I don't want us to drop out of the Premiership as much as the next Swans fan. But if we can use the money wisely to get the academy sorted and develop a training facility to be proud of, dropping out of the Premiership could be seen as the step backwards before two step forwards. The club is bigger than any player - we could spend all our money on players and wages and still get relegated, as much as we could spend nothing and stay up. We don't know what's going to happen in the future, but we've got the money to sort out the training facilities and academy, and to not have that as top priority is foolish. Fully agree on your comment on 'over-hyped premiership' players, there are too many in the Premiership that have wages that aren't relative to their abilities. I'm happy for us to stick to our wages principles and only buying if the deal is right for the club. Thankfully, Brendan understands this. He's very empathetic with regards to where the club has come from and understands that we have only just recovered from the financial mess we were put in 30 years ago. Money will be spent when the money is earned, and long may that continue.
£10 million is a small amount of money in the premiership for any club in the bottom half of the table. most will spend more than that, Norwich are reported to put £15 million in the transfer pot in an effort to stay up this season and they are better than us so far......how the hell can we compete in the second much harder part of the season with a pathetic £3-5 million.......sorry but it cant be done we will go to pieces if we dont get better than we got at the moment, we got lucky against fulham and that wont happen much this season...........if we think small we will act small and £10+ million wont actually put much of a dent in the guaranteed money of £90+ million and even less of a dent if we stay up and get £45 million for doing so. That's Plus £35+ million up on the deal.......good business sense to me.....
Dai. There is no way Hj is going to spend that sort of money, especially in the January transfer window. Its easy saying we have 90 million to spend, but we dont. What sort of wages will a 5+ million player request? For years now youve been saying that HJ's spending policy wont get us anywhere, but look where we are now. We need to stick to our policy of getting the right player at the right price and on the right terms for the club. You mention Norwich chucking a 'reported £15 million at staying in the premiership, maybe thats the reason why they dropped so far down the leagues, Delia and co spent to much money on inflated prices and wages for players that still took them down and it took years (and a good manager) to get them back into the premiership. Im behind and trust this board and manager, we have improved year on year and are in safe hands.
I wouldn't inflict to much change , especially high priced change , on what makes the team tick , no matter which League this team plays in . Each signing now should be " Quality not Quantity " . A quality buy in January , maybe a few loans & a few in the summer (if we stay up ) & were swimming in money ready for another season in the Premier & 40 million more in ye ole back pocket .
dai, i agree with you, yes you read that correctly. whilst things are going really well for you guys at the moment, as we have seen before, the second half of the season will be much more difficult, £5m buys you very little in the way of proven quality, money should be invested to secure PL football. its ok to say 'we've come this far spending nothing' but when teams start to suss out the style of play you need to be able to deal with it, and as it stands there isnt the quality or quantity of players to do so. i'd be very disappointed if my club was in your position and gave the manager peanuts (which £5m is), i'd go as far as saying it would be pure and utter madness, the definition of a false economy
It doesn't matter how much money 10 million pound is to any other club, it's an incredible amount to the Swans, and can, for the benefit of the long term future of the club, be spent elsewhere. I will be absolutely flabbergasted if we spend anything approaching that (personally I think it'll be more like 2 or 3 million spent) on players and I'm sure when that happens people will undoubtedly take the opportunity to jump on the boards back.
The Swans are proven when unearthing quality gems from unknown pastures. We'll stick to what we're good at, thank you. Unfortunately, 'proven' Premier League players cost around 40,000 per week on average. We won't be going for these over hyped, over paid, prima donnas.
Swampy. The thing is, we do things different.. We dont spend millions on players because they are 'established premiership players' Football is changing, clubs see the likes of us and the way we have done things and realise that in the current climate and the way money comes and does go in football, the frugal and progressive type of football is the way to go.
Money is no good in the Bank if we go back to the championship. It would take us at least 5-10 years to get back up.More seats needed, what a laugh if we go down.We need to spend 10 million at least at that wouldnt break the bank with the promised 90 million. And if we stay up another 45 mill.We have a chance now to stay a premiere league club,i would take the chance at invest 10 million to keep us up or perhaps give us a better chance of staying up.Invest little,i think more people will be complaining come the summer if we get relegated and many will be saying why didnt we invest in January.Thats just my opinion,i would like to see us again in 2012-2013 in the premiership.NOw is the time to keep us there.
whilst that may get you plaudits from the neutrals, and uefa in terms of FFP, it will be for nothing if you get relegated as a result of it..
Imagine being in 11th place in the Premier League swamp & not only bringing in a lot of new faces to possible ruin the gel the team has in place over years , but having to spend millions on multiple transfer deals to possibly ruin that very gel . Wonder what the plaudits would say if we spent big & went backwards . There's two sides of how the transfer coin will flip & unless were dire come the end of January , just a couple of quality guys into the squad to fine tune the team please
taitaffy you have posted exactly the same as i said... you are absolutely right of course because if we go down because we didn't invest it will cause a tremendous amount of complications within the club. All the good work to get here in the first place will go out of the window and certain relegation down the leagues as we lose our manager and all our best players that will take years to recover. the way some talk on here that we cant afford to invest and thats the most stupid comment ever, we are a football club and not a bank and while we have the money it should be used to further the clubs progress,,,,sorry you cant do that in the premiership on peanuts...£10 million is a small amount to give Rodgers in january and i think he should be given more than that and i hope Morgan does. It dont mean for one minute he will spend the lot its about giving him the tools to do his job....like some on here say.....if we go down you would soon be finding someone to blame and it will be to late the damage will have been done that will take years to recover from....i personally think Morgan will do the right thing as he cant afford not to if he wants us to be an established premiership club...
i'm not saying spend £15 on 5 players, just that 2 or 3 players in the right areas, one of those being striker, will improve your chances, all the teams at the bottom have at least one quality striker (apart from maybe norwich), whereas do swansea? graham has yet to convince me, though he's doing well for someone who is in the championship.. and dai, i'm with you here, swansea have worked so hard to get in the PL, why not do everything in their power to stay there?
spending loads on player's only guarentees success if your dead lucky or if they're superstars, we can't afford superstars so we got to go down the lucky route, and why spend loads on that? i want us to invest in january, but the way the club has done it on up and coming player's is obviously the right way to go and long may it continue, we could easily bring in 3/4 player's for about 5m, we already have situ here, a loan won't cost much, the goose is out of contract in the summer, so he won't cost a great deal, the lad donelly is'nt going to cost a great deal, if we can get toonstra he'll probaly cost more than the rest together.
While I obviously agree about wanting to stay up, I wouldn't necessarily agree about the proportion of people moaning if we DID get relegated. If we don't spend big and get relegated, the people who'll be moaning will be the same people who are now saying we're doomed if we don't spent huge amounts of money. Everyone wants to see money spent, it seems people have differing ideas on how much is a "safe" amount to spend. I'd say spending anything more than 3 or 4 mil would be a huge gamble considering it's been proven that money doesn't buy success.
if we go down after spending a few quid then that is acceptable because the club done everything they could to stay up. now if we spend very little and go down then there would be uproar that we did not do enough to stay up. we are not a bank the money is there to improve the club and stay out of debt and if you think that we cant spend at least £10+ million with all the money we have generated these past few seasons then you dont know much about football ....your talking as if we are in league two with very little money... We are premiership and we want to stay here and you wont do that with peanuts......
