There's an interesting Novices Hurdle at Uttoxeter this evening (18.00) with the forum's favourite Lieutenant unleashing the former Crisford inmate Twirling over obstacles. This daughter of Churchill achieved a peak rating of 94 on the flat although I wouldn't expect to see too much of her in the coming NH season as she bombed out on soft ground on her last 2 starts. Spring and summer racing likely to be her aim. She doesn't have an easy task on hurdles debut though, with her 2 main market rivals both having previous hurdling experience and, coincidentally, both finished 2nd last time out. Ben Pauling's Squire Danagher managed to finish in front of the hot favourite Romany Brown but was denied by 66/1 shot Chelsea Annie at Worcester in what looked a very average contest. More impressive was the run of Hope Rising under a penalty over C&D 3 weeks ago - she found only a smart recruit from the Harry Fry yard (Trustintimes) too good - and he was completing a hat trick. Should be an informative contest and I fancy Hope Rising to prevail.
