Have to be honest mate, I've always felt safe in London, and certainly a lot safer than some English Towns. I think what also helps with London is what I see as a high Met Police presence, whether you trust the cops or not is another matter, but their visiability to visitors and tourists is reassuring.

I don't feel that crime is any higher than any other location I visit, and considering London is our major capital City that's impressive. Obviously I'm not there to scratch the surface and it will have it's problems.

Whether you are in London, Canterbury, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, Glasgow, those problems exist. I don't think there is anything that particulalry makes London stand out as the worst.

The obvious reason he is pleading with the cops at the end is because his mum is going to kill him. <laugh>

Although it states about looking into how young people get drawn into extreme violence...

Didn't his parents originally come from somewhere like Somalia, where they had to escape extreme violence? I really do hope any inquiry does not whitewash over this connection.

If you or your parents come from places such as Somlia and Sudan, even Syria, these questions need to be asked, especially when you seek refuge in a country where it's help for psychological traumas is virtually non existent and you are just left to get on with it, in our so called care in the community system.

ah Rwanda....don't know why I thought it was Somalia. I knew the parents had escaped some atrocity, genocide. My concern is what did his parents tell him about their past life, it must have an enormous psychological impact, especially if he starts researching what his parents escaped. I know they will want to point that to the internet, but what can you do unless you censor past horror stories.

There is a fine line between what you share with your kids and what you protect them from - one of the trickiest areas of parenting. My old girl never went into much detail about living through 'the Blitz' until I was in my late twenties - she would have been 11 and my old man 9 when the war broke out ...
