This is the impossible no man's land we've occupied more or less since moving to the new stadium. We can match most of the biggest clubs on transfer fees, but not on wages or track record. This has directly led to us overpaying for relatively average players in every window since the move. Players for whom we faced no competition for their signature from bigger clubs, which is usually the most obvious sign that said player isn't good enough. I could list them but we all know who they are. Until we take a sledgehammer to our wage structure (which we absolutely can and if Son leaves this window it becomes even easier to do), this problem won't go away. Until that time, I'd much prefer us to gamble £60m on three more potential Bergvalls than handing that money all at once to a hated rival for a player who probably isn't worth it to start with. As Brian said, our strategy appears to be as confused as it always has been, and that is probably because the man at the top of the tree is still throwing acorns at everyone down below whenever they show a sign of logical independent thinking.
Will mean nothing if we don't sign Eze/Rodrygo and spend £50m on Madueke instead. Aside from the fact we have helped our west London neighbours out far too much over the years, I just don't see how he fits into the team and how he's good enough for a team that supposedly has aspirations to win the league/Champions League. Also, he came from Spurs academy, went to Chelsea and now wants to come to Arsenal? When he's still 23 years old? Yeah, this guy doesn't have a single loyal bone in his body.
Kudus , is he any good or worth the fee being banded about , true that I wouldn't bother watching a West Ham game that did not involve us and the only reason I am aware of him was his massive strop at the Lane last season , £60 million plus for a non home grown hmmm is he worth it ?
Inconsistent from what I’ve seen One of those players who you could make a YouTube video and he would look like prime Neymar
Out of him, Eze, Mbeumo and Semenyo, he’s the one I’d have wanted the least tbh. I think he’s a good player though, albeit inconsistent. If the move happens hopefully Frank feels he can do to him what he’s done with Watkins, Benrahma, Mbeumo, Toney and Wissa over the years.
His data is what makes him stand out, as he's completed more dribbles than anyone in the last two PL seasons, which fixes the glaring issue of last season where none of our wingers could beat their man, plus he has PL experience That being said, if the Spanners try to play silly buggers, we better have a fallback option in place, so I hope L'Equipe linking us to Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche the other day was a hint of Paratici being back in the kitchen as he has a very similar profile and Monaco need to sell and reportedly already have a replacement lined up
I am hearing that Potter has played Kudus in 4 different positions. This could explain inconsistencies.
I'm guessing Sheffield United's double move (maybe loan, can't recall) for Ash Phillips and Alfie Devine came to naught, given how prominent Phillips is in the training video
