In one of the shops covered by the BBC the owner was in court that day for selling dodgy cigs. Possible 10k fine. But shop still selling them later that day! I don't understand why the council can't or won't shut them down.
They can refuse that individual a license, but there's little they can do about the next registered 'owner'. As the health and tax savings go to central government, there has to be a judgement call on which issues to spend Council resources on. Some result in a better financial return for the Council and a focus on cigarettes would inevitably mean a reduction somewhere else.
Fakes, all sorts of sh!t in them, avoid!!!! Anyway, this sort of sh!t is going on up and down the Country, not just Hull...It's just lawlessness and laughable that the pr!ck who owns the shop kicks off, should've been cuffed but no!!! Noteworthy that most of the cigs underneath the shop were in suitcases? Have his family brought them in and stayed?
Exactly what I’ve put in my post and the broader issues which are affecting those who open their eyes lives . I know you also think I’m racist , its cultures legal and other wise that are shaping this country .
I didn’t read your post You just wondered whether anyone would be prepared to debate I would (in between other home stuff) if I knew what you wanted to debate (ideally a bit more specific than ‘broader issues’) You put forward an argument on a specific issue and if I disagree with it then I’ll debate it. If I agree I’ll say so.
Better to centralise trading standards and put it all under one umbrella with one budget, remove it from local council jurisdiction..HMRC claim that this illegal practice is costing them £2.2 billion in lost revenue, time they set up a serious task force.? Edit...Huge punishments for doing it
To an extent, that already happens as they have an arrangement for home authority that would deal with the manufacturer of a product that is sold nationally. The HMRC claim is an interesting one, as the general policy is to reduce smoking, so any loss would be to the NHS in the extra cost of healthcare rather than HMRC, but if they are genuine ***s smuggled in (rather than fakes) then it could be argued that HMRC have overcooked the tax which makes that profitable. Similar to when they celebrate a drugs haul, if the demand isn't tackled, confiscations just simply increase demand, with the prices going up as a consequence. I'm not sure if it applies to cigs, but in the case of drugs, this increases crime to pay for it.
Ok it’s a massive topic covering all sorts of things but as I’ve found so far I’m boxed up and labelled by the same people who in recent years been vocal on ‘ minor’ topics but stayed quiet on bigger matters . To be honest I’m knackered today so will leave it alone for now . As the pub landlord said ‘it’s because we’re awake’ !!
I would imagine there'll be some quite significant health implications as some analysed fake product contained asbestos..
Don't be daft, they'd never be able to light them. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Took out quite a few of the greenhouse windows in the houses back of my mates house chucking asbestos and aerosols onto a bonfire. How the **** we never got caught in the shrapnel is a mystery.
A lad at school tried cleaning up some shells he'd picked up on Atwick beach using a hammer and chisel. Turns out they were live ordnance and it scared the **** out of the bomb squad.
They come in on boats mate. Humberside plod have a permanent boat now patrolling the area. I supply a rugby club in Suffolk and when I went to visit them one day I stayed over and had a few beers, lovely little place. Got talking to a lad in the pub and he said he was working nights. Intriguing as it was I asked him what job he did on nights that allowed him to sink several pints in an afternoon and it turns out he was meeting modern pirates with a boat full of cigs. True to his word he gave me about 10 sleeves of Lambert the next day for peanuts. They literally just delivered off the coast drugs, cigs and god knows what else. Those people buying this stuff don't realise what they're funding. Ironically they're probably sat outside Raynors smoking cheap cigs moaning about how many brown faces now walk around town.
Someone told me there is a beach near here that is used but I've no evidence of that. Our coastline is so vast I guess it's not surprising that people are doing it.
