I had 13 pints of Double maxim and two bottles of Newcastle brown ale, back in the day when we beat West Ham 6-0, I was a little tipsy
Like a nice weiss beer, Franziskaner being the best. Had bottles of it over here but not as good as in Germany. Landlord is a nice pint. Used to drink black sheep a lot but have gone off it a bit. Theakstons is canny, especially XB. Could never get away with lager but don't mind a Cruzcampo or Madri now. Other beers I've enjoyed while being abroad are Jupiler, Estrella Damm and Vol Damm.
Estrella is smashing when you in Spain. Absolute dishwater in England. I never get that. Estrella Galicia is banging but I think you can literally only get that in Vigo I’ve never seen it anywhere else.
Caffreys story. I had started courting my now wife and she had moved into a little house with a pub on her street. I lived in a dive so all but lived. Plus she had a tele and I wanted to watch test match on bbc. Started drinking in the little pub and it was taken over by an Irish ex rugby player. Me and him became good mates. When Caffreys landed in this country he had it on. First night me and him had a lock in and drank more than a few pints. It was lush but man the hangover was spectacular. Neither so the following morning
Ah man, this thread is gonna do me no good at all. Currently on day 656 without a beer, but hopefully that'll end soon. Im donating a kidney to the Mrs and was advised to limit alcohol intake, so decided to completely cut it out till the kidney is out, hopefully in the next 2 or 3 months. Pint of choice would be Kronenbourg for lager, but top of the list would be Guinness. Also like Murphys, but harder to come by now (seems like it may be making a comeback though). Used to love draught Caling Premier, but the cans available now are just not the same. When I was a young-un used to drink Holsten Pils or Becks, but both of them have had their alcohol content reduced over the years. Was also partial to a pint of newcastle exhibition and mcewans scotch, both sadly long gone. Current tipple is Guinness 0.0, but not for long.
Can't get it now, but Summer Wine's Diablo was insanely good. Really bitter, West Coast IPA. I think they tried to do too much and ceased around COVID time, but Summer Wine, (from Holmfirth, hence the name) made the best beers I've ever tasted. Now, it could be any of the small brewers, who seem to do this kind of stuff really well, though you need to find your thing. Omnipollo Pilsner for a lager though it's hard to find Camden Hells champion too. Interesting. I'm pretty sure Estrella is still imported.
Aye you get Estrella Damm and such, just never see Galicia here. Dunno why. It’s big over there they sponsor all the clubs in region Celta, Depor etc
Forgot about stouts. Love a pint of Guinness but the quality varies so much. Haven't been to Dublin yet but have had a few in Belfast which were great. The best one I've had in England was scruffy murphys in Liverpool yonks back. The Birmingham student guild had a few decent stouts that became my favourite tipple. Murphys and ones that you don't see much now like Beamish and Gillespies.
Weiss Negre. Wheat beer (eg Erdinger) with about 100ml Coke in the bottom of a tall glass! Literally having one as I type this!
Up there I'll try for Vaux but down here this is my tipple of choice - so good SAFC have even put it on the new away shirt!
