It's hard for me to be sentimental about players when we operate how we do. If I had to name my favourite SAFC players over the last decade or so they would be Jobe, Clarke and Stewart. All sold before we played a PL game. If a huge offer comes in for Mayenda or Rigg, they will be sold. That's just how we are going about it and I agree with it wholeheartedly. I trust we will keep improving while keeping a very likeable squad but I don't think i'm able to have a real attachment to the individual players.
Mind I used to love the Bob-a-long on a Thursday night. Also touched my first real fanny in the ice rink (and later in the deep end) Memories…
You didn’t offer your opinion and say you wanted last years team to say you started saying oh it shouldn’t have happened since we had average defence midfield etc taking the mick out of other people’s opinions Don’t try and come with this petty questions like you’re innocent. It’s a pick on tactic and it’s so poor.
I’ll point it out for you again next time. I find it very frustrating when you lump everyone together and completely fabricate what’s being said
Are we in danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water with these lads. We all got excited, off the scale with some...when we thought we were getting one of two better keepers than Patto...We haven't got any so far. We've signed others and straight away lads who got us promoted aren't good enough for the task ahead etc and so on. I'm not saying we don't need a better squad but surely the lads who got us over the line deserve our respect and the opportunity to show us whether their up to the task or not. The spirit amongst that squad is worth a lot but some on here would seemingly chuck it all away in the lust for points next season and I find that extremely sad.....maybes I'm too long in the tooth for today's must have it now fans. Just give these lads the chance they do richly deserve.
I make no apologies for being sentimental about football. Not one. I grew up in a different era and we all had fav players and cottoned onto them for life. I had the likes of Agboola, Marco, Armstrong and Vennison for the lads. Platini, Maradona etc for others. Van Basten and Gullit for the Milan team. I latched on to each and got emotionally attached. So many others I could go on for ever. With Dan Neil I have done the same. I have down the years with players. I could talk about Gazza forever. Rigg is the next. That makes me bias, absolutely. But for me it is why the game is so beutiful. I love football players. They give me so much pleasure. They are like artists or musicians. They give me such joy. I only ever coached because I wanted to see talent given a fair crack. And I mean talent not anything else. I naturally want to see these players play. It is a love affair for me. If they arent right for my club I cant love them less. Italy is the romantic home of football, along with Brazil. If I can watch Dan play anywhere other than us it will be there. Every game I can.
They are staying though unless they either don't sign a new deal or a huge offer comes in. The core is down to 13.
I've been looking at the Chelsea and Strasbourg players and I'm fairly certain you could make a competitive prem team out of the out of favour players owned by blueco without just stripping Strasbourg entirely
That’s weird as **** like haha I support the shirt, the club, my hometown and my heritage, not the person who happens to be passing through that season
I think you’ve got to be realistic or we will be the same as every other promoted club from the last 2 years. and again, nobody is saying get rid of everyone. Upgrade on your starting XI and then a lot of these players become competition and depth. That’s the best way of strengthening. We will likely have 3-4 players from last season starting in the XI and the rest will be challenging. it’s like people think we kick them out the door when a signing comes in, we need a very strong squad, these lads that have been here can play their part they just might not start
