I did a bit of digging on this and it looks like this happened - as recently as last summer in fact. I believe the picture shows him writing 'Hamas' on a shell. Absolutely disgraceful and he has gone down in my estimation, which is a shame as their cover of 'Sound of Silence' is one of the best pieces ever produced. But I condemn this unequivocally. These people know next to nothing about geopolitics and, what is worse imo, are so wealthy and powerful that they almost never face the consequences of the opinions and actions they spout. Same thing pisses me off when Hollywood actors mouth off on political issues before retreating behind their 50-foot wrought-iron gates in a sprawling mansion that has its own nuclear bunker. Ricky Gervais put it perfectly: "You're in no position to lecture anybody about politics, so if you do win, come up, accept your little award, and **** off."
