Starsky and Hutch, my best memory is the cardigan with a belt, I went for a pint with my Dad on Christmas morning and the bar was a sea of blokes in the Starsky cardigans , some enterprising bloke on Watford market had a stall that hit the trend at the right time
I enjoyed Amyl and the Sniffers, Beth Gibbon, Nick Lowe was his usual excellent self but the BBC coverage is not as good ,it always had a section of acoustic coverage which threw up new or interesting artists or it could be I've missed it Today's highlight for me will be Black Uhuru and The Prodigy (without Keith, not so sure )
I went to see Maiden at the Olympic Stadium yesterday. They hit their usual high standards after some early sound mixing issues. Lasted about 2 songs. Their support, Halestorm, suffered from the same particularly quiet guitar problems, too. Not something you'd expect from rock bands, really. It's a ****ing weird venue. Definitely not made for football, though not too bad for music. I don't get the whole roof area, the slope of the seating is too slight and what's with this screen? please log in to view this image It's right where you'd want more seating, not very useful and they'll probably hit it with **** shots, too.
So, Bob Vylan's in trouble with pretty much everyone... ...I'm actually quite impressed. Last time I saw them, he was taking pot shots at the age of his audience at Rebellion and Elvis Presley, for having been fat. Not exactly edgy stuff!! A bit more contemporary this time. Well done!
BBC Coverage has been poor, too much chat not enough music, where did you find Nick Lowes set? I was looking for Hugh Cornwells too. Enjoyed Gary Numan surprisingly good and I was surprised to seem him with a 'bog standard' rock band and another musician making music with his daughters.
Nick Lowe was on BBC iplayer I can't find the Glastonbury version video of this song but saw this earlier and loved it
Numan has always used drummer + bass in his band. Even at the height of Moog power, there was still guitar.
I would not go and see him play the old stuff, because no modern synth "preset" is close enough for me in power and sound to the mighty Moogs.
I will let you know as I am off to see the Telekon tour at Rock City later in the year. In fact I now have Inspiral Carpets on the 21/11, Numan on the 25th and The Undertones on the 5/12. Not sure I can cope, especially fiitng in a couple of home games around that time as well!!!
Now and then he will have a gig (usually in a big city) where someone can comfortably transport a working Polymoog on loan solely for that event. For touring purposes, a lot of modern synths exist that have had "Vox humana" presets made which sound fairly good (which helps) . Tis the raw power that sets the 70s analog synths apart.
I saw Paradise Lost supporting King Diamond at the Roundhouse last night. They played this song and it reminded me of the simple, yet incredibly effective video.
