Not long now lads… a tough group for Sarina and the girls - France, Netherlands and Wales. First match is Saturday for the ‘Lionesses’, v France. Let’s see if I can be the only person that posts anything in this thread - my support for the wimmin’s game is only matched by the giant that is Ian Wright
I'll probably actually watch a game or two and will definitely be following how they get on. That's much more than I can say for the Club World Championship waste of time that currently going on. Other than hearing Bayern Munich beat some team like 10-0 I've managed to ignore that entirely.
Only thing I've paid particular note to and it's something which is going to cause carnage at the world cup next year is the delays for inclement weather. When electrical storms hit parts of the US public places are as good as closed down. delays in matches will last hours on end as they wont allow players to play through it.
i’ve just watched Inter/Fluminense… absolutely no jeopardy, a series of very well paid friendlies that are meaningless. I agree that at the least the girls’ Euros will have a minor sense of occasion. I’m not a great fan of girl’s football really - the stadiums sound like school playgrounds with all the high pitched screaming, and the (generally) female commentators over-play the skills and abilities of most of the players - but at least it’s some football, treat it for what it is and some of the games will bear watching. next year’s World Cup is a worry though, that weather problem and the potential kick off times could make it a dud which isn’t great when it’s only every 4 years. We should put a bid in for Russo though …
In fact I can hear the commentary now… ex-player that drops their ‘t’s’, Home Counties accent beside them screaming “oh that’s a WONDERFUL goal!!!!” just after 3 players go up for a header (all of them missing) the ball bounces over the defenders and the keeper slices their clearance at an onrushing ponytail and it smacks off their face and into the net…
