I am no expert but I reckon I have seen more bloody cabbage whites this weekend than I did all of last year. Like a snow storm down the allotment (bit of an exaggeration). Is this some kind of bumper cabbage white year something? Nasty little buggers mind. Pretty little sods, but lay eggs in the cabbage and it is no more cabbage.
I was over the moon today when 'Tommy' the robin called in the garden today. We used to see him every day until we got the back fence replaced six months ago, but this is the first time since. Not ashamed to say I was a bit emotional.
I have poppies galore this year. My missus had a brainwave to collect poppy heads when we went walking last year and spread all the seeds everywhere in the garden
Butterflies have just appeared these past few weeks when we were told not to mow the lawn in May to help them
Our nest box was visited by a couple of Great Tits but one was slightly overweight so they didn't stay... we were gutted. Had them nesting last year, and Blue Tits the year before
We went for a walk round Dalby Forest yesterday - lovely under the trees then scorching out in the open on the return leg. Saw a small yellow bird and 'goldfinch' was the first name that sprang to mind. I think it was all yellow rather than having little bits of other colour.
There's an app called "Merlin Bird ID" you can get on your phone which will listen and tell you which birds it recognises around you.
Just googled and it wasn't a goldfinch. I think it was a male yellowhammer, which was cool. Not come across those before.
