Cesar Luis Merlo now says Racing Club have offered their bid for Alejo Veliz to $4m upfront and £3m in bonuses + a 30% sellon fee for 100% of his contract This is turning into algebra...
Signed for approx £13million and likely sold for roughly half that without really playing at all. Poor poor signing
Less the signing, more the loans Sevilla barely played him at all, IIRC he played something like half an hour's football in half a season, while at Espanyol he played half a season's worth of minutes over a whole season - in no small part because he wasn't really suited to their system
Wasn't given much of a chance either, which seems to be a recurring theme with many of our youngsters. At the same time, we can well afford taking a few flutters every season on players in the £10-15m band. By far the more damaging are the big money signings who we all know well in advance are never going to live up to their price tag. But we generally have to get much smarter at selling players. We've sold just two players (Walker and Kane, both players we didn't really want to sell) for more than £30m in the past decade. Other clubs seem to be much more adept at getting top dollar even for their surplus players. If Arsenal can pick up £34m for Iwobi, there is no reason we shouldn't be doing better.
We've certainly been a lot better with our loans in the last couple of seasons, but on paper Veliz should not have been loaned to a La Liga team If we'd loaned him to an Eredivisie team we'd have probably seen his value hover somewhere in the £7-10m range with enough end product to tilt negotiations in our favour
Veliz made sense given he's good in the air and has a good workrate, and given Ange's Plan B was to rain crosses into the area he was a good fit to be on the end of crosses from Perisic as well as hassling defenders But then Perisic got injured, soon followed by Veliz getting injured, and there was not place for him at all Sometimes **** happens, and Veliz got more of it than most
Tutto Juve claim we're opening negotiations for Georges Mikautadze Have the been reading this forum...?
Romero’s decent but not available enough. Lo Celso was a disaster of a signing and was rightly loan out and then sold for peanuts. I don’t think I was wrong about him and Veliz’s Spurs career is over already by the looks of it
