Can you imagine what Dortmund are thinking... 'we just paid £35 million for Jobe Bellingham"... for another £25 million we could have had Elliott...
Yet another one for the academy. Nah, can't be right, our owner doesn't invest in our youth system, right? That said, I'd be happier if we had more of the desperately needed 1st team additions coming in! https://x.com/HullCityStats/status/1937974783947182311?t=ITd7U61-b8qkDA04Hla_Ow&s=19
To be fair, whether it's right or not, I don't think the criticism regarding investment in the youth team is about bringing in players but about investing in facilities.
LBaz can’t be coming cheap, and all he’s done thus far is what many a young kid does in the third tier and never cuts it any higher. I think he’d be a very expensive and risky signing to make on a permanent. Omur leaving is a massive disappointment. I truly hope we are not losing any money on him because he is an absolutely top quality player. I was hoping he’d be like a new signing with a fresh start under an organised manager. I’d be scouting in Israel, every generation they make a handful of world class players and it should be a bit easier getting them here given the current climate.
Not quite sure what you're referring to about net spend of transfers 'before taking amortisation into account'. All that matters is amortisation net of any player sales. Looking at transfer fees paid is (relatively) irrelevant in isolation.
So what, didn’t we make something like net 5m on Philogene after one season? Not saying Baz is at that level yet, obviously not, but the general concept has been established.
I think shifting some of our fringe players out permanently is as positive as signing players. Selling Simons, Racioppi and Smith saves a bit of money and we’re not just loaning them out indefinitely whilst subsidising their wages. Likewise, it would be good if we can sell Mehlem and Ömür soon, even at a loss, as it means they’re off the wage bill for good. I actually think the players I’ve mentioned are all decent but if we’re not playing them then it’s best for all parties if they go. If Ömür was only on £20K-a-week at most then I wouldn’t mind him being given a chance in pre-season but if he’s on the rumoured £35K-a-week, it’s harder to justify keeping him around.
I was on about Giles to my roommate, in light of costing 4mil would you take him off the wage bill for free or give him another shot if we can’t raise 1/2m for him?
I’ve not seen anyone mention what his wages are even as a rough estimate but I imagine he’s on quite a bit. I don’t think any club will cancel a player’s contract by mutual consent when they cost £4 million+ and have two years left. If nobody wants him this summer, he will have to be kept on. He got his wish to go back to Boro and he was ****ing crap so he and his agent must realise he doesn’t have many options other than staying at City.
