Thing is it's just an unnecessary risk. We have a player on our books who in his last 3 full seasons in the championship has hit 16, 28, and 21 goals.

Essentially swapping that for what is likely to be potential could backfire hugely. Doesn't matter if we think somebody will be good enough for the PL eventually if they only manage 8 goals this season and we don't go up.

And that's without considering that we'll almost certainly be making a competitor stronger.

Yeah the time to be ruthless is not this window imo. It's upon securing promotion. We have a large number of players that were good for us in the championship but are just not PL players. So let's make use of them in the Championship to get back up, and then worry about having to be ruthless with them afterwards. Of course there are issues with motivation, morale if they realise that's what we're doing. but the players should believe they can develop into PL players for us, even if we don't...and hopefully that will be enough to keep them motivated (it's much easier in a winning team too). I do see how that could be a problem, particularly with Armstrong given the journey he's had with us though.

    ^^All of this.

We should keep him and he may have a 'bad' season and 'only' get 15 goals (if this happens I bet our other striker will get 20+). If he goes, it will be to a Championship side and a top one at that and he will only make them stronger.

I’m not saying we should be actively getting rid of him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants out. Not sure how long he has left on his contract, but he might want a fresh start elsewhere where he might get another chance in the PL

Be interesting if a bid around £15m came in from Birmingham for example, what the club would do

That is a very high fee for a championship club and one that we’d probably accept. As discussed - we probably shouldn’t. But good chance we would

On the face of it, this appears to be unreal business, but part of me just knows he’s going to be top scorer in the Champions League next year

Don't get many like KWP these days. We rightly moan about your VVD and Lovren types, so only right we recognise players when they show how it should be done.

Hope he gets a good contract at a decent club.

Wonder where he will end up. Everton sounded likely with Moyes after him last season but they’ve just signed Kenny Tete as a right back, someone I thought was awful but Fulham fans are upset he’s gone so clearly I’ve not watched enough of him. They also don’t like the sound of KWP coming to them as his replacement as he’s not good enough according to them

Maybe a return to Spurs as a rotation option? But Spence seemed to do alright when called on last season.

Leeds possibly, they’ve been linked before. Not really sure who else domestically is likely, maybe he’ll go abroad

Yeah seems logical, doubt he starts there if Castagne is fit though so depends what he wants, Leeds would be more assured of starting but obviously another relegation battle and return to the Championship may not be what he wants

I think he's going to Fulham isn't he? Saw a recent photo of him hanging out with Iwobi, Smith Rowe and some others which would suggest so. Tbf I wouldn't expect fans of PL clubs to think much of him as how much will they have actually watched him, and as far as they are concerned he is just part of two awful PL sides (our last two seasons in the PL). Hope he does well there though and they can appreciate him like we got to. Surrounded by better players I think he'll shine again. Fantastic player for us over the years and a brilliant servant to the club. Easily my favourite player in recent history for his performances, attitude and longevity. Thank you KWP!

Norgaard another one who could leave Brentford this summer, Arsenal have an opening bid of £10m rejected.

Selling Armstrong this summer would be crazy. But it was a personal comment of Alfie's during his chat with Adam on Solent. I didn't get the feeling that there was any insider knowledge behind it.

Bravo a well put concise defence of your view, if everyone else could debate their views like this we wouldn't have the inevitable spiral into a 3 page argument <applause>
