Cos he's an U16 international and is only costing 75k, and Cartwright and Robson aren't kids anymore?
So we 'need' a youth team at all? Don't understand those criticising lack of investment in the academy under Acun then when we do it's treated as if they're just a pointless first team signing coming here to sit on the bench. They've obviously seen something that makes them think he has the potential to succeed, and make a potential profit on down the line
The question should be, how many youth keepers we’ve had that have made it in the game? I’m sure there’s a couple from Steve Bruce’s era, but ultimately there’s only 1 goalkeeper in a team, at any level, short of an injury, only 1 goalkeeper is going to play. Short of them being the greatest keeper of all time, we have too many!
I mention this every so often but I don't think we've had a youth keeper make the grade with us this century. There've been a few who've looked like being close, and a couple who've had careers at a lower level, but none that have actually broken into our first team.
We only have 2 first team keepers in the squad. Racioppi and Cartwright are on their way out and Lo Tutala is on loan in L1 for the season and Robson has already left. Not that it's relevant when we're talking about a schoolboy.
Eduardo Álvarez, Sports Manager of #LDU . "Óscar Zambrano is physically fit. I believe we'll have a response from Hull City by Friday at the latest."
We now only have Pandur and Phillips. Cartwright will third choice but I can see him leaving if we get a half decent offer, as will Callum Yam as his contract is about to expire. That would leave Archie Howard and George Wilson for the #3 spot if two other lads go, but I think Howard has only played a few times for the U21s and is mainly the U18s keeper. Oxley played a game or two for our first team, Cartwright and Lo-Tutala have also played a couple. It's a difficult position to break through in, most keepers have to leave and drop down before being bought by a higher level club again.
Every year it just seems to be the same thing of focusing on goalkeepers, regardless of how many we already have. During the early 2010’s we had zero first team keepers & had a continuous line of loans in goal. I never understood that & I don’t understand this, both options seem pointless.
Is be more concerned if we were stockpiling first teamers as we seemed to do last season, didn't understand the Racioppi signing with Rushworth coming in and we couldn't loan Cartwright due to injury, but that doesn't seem to be the case this season. Worth noting TLT was deemed an adequate No2 last season and I'd expect him to come back onto the fold as long as he doesn't bomb at Donny. This new lad is an U16 though FFS, signing for a relatively small amount and not a first team signing by any stretch.
In 1963, my mother and I moved to Hurworth from Hull when she married a builder from Croft whose workshop was at the bottom of the embankment next to the club. In 1968, I was eighteen and working in the offices at Paton & Baldwins. It was always the Stable Bar on Fridays and Saturdays, Kirklevington on Thursdays, The Flamingo on Sundays where I sometimes filled in as dj when Keith Eddy was having a break. Other hangouts included: The Bolivar in town, The Chequers at Dalton, The Vintage near Richmond and Teesside Airport where they had a disco for a short time. What did you do in Darlington and are you still there?
He better be decent & not another one that gets tossed aside in 4/5 years. £100k minimum is his cost according to the tweet of 6 figures!
It's 75k with add one based on future performance if you actually read the article, and considering keepers tend to break through later and play longer and now he's only 16, then doing it in 5 years would be remarkable.
The brain team have done such average job at signing some players, everyone moans when we actually sign someone.
