My Granny had a sister who used to live up Bev Rd.2 of her children were deaf and dumb and used to go to some place(Deaf & Dumb institute/centre) up Springbank back in the 60's/70's? I don't even know if it still exists, big building it was from memory.Probably an HMO,barbers or kebab shop nowadays
The building is still there, fairly sure it's name is in the stonework. Not sure as to its current use though. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Blimey, that was a long time ago. One of the more enjoyable away matches of the eighties (hoping I've got the decade right).
Just found it on Google Earth, and it's still there, the sign above the door says 'Hull and East Yorkshire Centre for the Deaf'. Zooming in, there's a sign near the door stating 'knock hard, very hard'. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
It's fecking huge, housing a car park, superstore, and train station. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
When I was a kid we went to Light Water Valley with Persil tokens. My dad being my dad we were there crack of bird fart so first car in the queue. Me and my brother raced around like mad going on all of the rides before the crowds came. Then mid-morning it started pissing down and they closed half the rides. My mum being my mum went straight to the "office" to have a good old complain that we'd paid good money to get in and everything was closed. She came back out with a full cash refund. Happy Days. We went to Whitby instead and after a fish and chip lunch I spent the rest of the day in the howling wind and driving rain failing to catch fish off the harbour wall with a handline. Funny what sticks in your head.
that is a bit of a drop ive still got my old zx9r c2 havent ridden it in 6 yrs or started it in 4 yrs. prob seized up. ive got a vary rare bike you hardly see any on the roads or at cafes etc. a 2018 z1000sx..... in green stupid antler type mirrors that stick out halfway across the oncoming lane. i smashed 3 of them in the first 3 yrs. the zx6r and zx9r and even a zx10r that i was too scared of so sold it, all had nice tucked in mirrors ill go smaller as and when the knees or hips give way. prob end up on a dt175 or modern day equivalent.
I needed something less aggressive, both wrists and thumbs were causing me loads of gyp even after a few hours - my riding mates reckoned those injuries weren't caused by riding ad had more to do with lifestyle habits, twats! Three weeks from now I'll be doing best best part of 1500 miles in 5 days when we go to do the Crieff Cloverleaf again, I'll be dosed up with Paracetemol and good beer so won't be too bad. I had a serious test ride on the 1000SX, nice bike but Robbingspeed at Grimsby weren't entertaining any kind of offer or deal so I ended up testing the S1000F, which I think is a miles better bike.
My mate bought a Z1000SX from 5-Ways and dropped it on day 2 in that hilly carpark at Squires. He had short legs and got off on the wrong side…timber. £1500 of damage.
The first person of non white British origin to play football for England was Frank Soo, son of a Chinese sailor living in Liverpool, who played during the Second World War. He went on to play for Scunthorpe
Should have been this bloke, Jack Leslie, who was called up for the England squad in 1925, but was denied an England appearance because of the colour of his skin. The Football Association has awarded him an honorary cap, 97 years after he was called up. Remember reading about the campaign by Plymouth fans to get him recognised.
Interesting read. Good to see him get belated recognition. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Leslie_(English_footballer)
