I think we are stuck in too much of a Saints mindset where we think 20m is a big fee because it’s pretty close to our record. Pretty much every club now in the PL has a transfer record of almost double ours And if he slots into a much stronger defence he might well be considered a good investment There was a “realistic transfers” video from I think The Athletic that linked him with Manchester United of all places. He was linked with West Ham in January. Bournemouth are selling defenders for 50m. It’s not impossible that they look at replacements in the 20m bracket.
I don't think we would sell for £20m - what would be the point? We paid £20m for him and he has now had a season the in the PL, albeit a bad one, and been capped for England. We would want to make a profit for sure.
Feels like a rumour that comes up a lot. Don’t know much about him but I’m assuming he’s one of those who is good at Champ level but can’t hack the PL. Potentially a loan could be a decent option
I think he's only got a year left on his contract, so I assume Forest would rather sell. That said, they've been trying to offload him for so long now, that they probably would accept a small transfer fee for him now (not that I would want us to pay it). He was OK at Huddersfield, but I'm not aware that he's done much since - whether at Forest or the various sides they've loaned him out to.
This could be a possibility as we are not in dire need of sales as per last time we were relegated. It would be a gamble if we don’t get promoted this season, but maybe one worth taking , as he’d still have a high sell on value in 26/27 season? Saw a PSR video the other day saying we could technically spend £51 million this PSR year without having to make any sales. Obviously that won’t happen, so any sales will put us in a much stronger position moving forward, and probably explains why we can play hard ball on any sales?
if it’s true it will be to do with how much we sold last time we were relegated, pretty sure we made about £120m that summer
Can’t remember sorry, but basically explaining that the 22/23 PSR year will now come of the 3 year period which included the disastrous January window of spending £50 million. The sales from 23/24 are now on the account period and last years premier league earnings, taking us into the coming season. We reduced wages drastically in the 23/24 season and then going into the premier league in comparison of monies coming in. This would align with reports now coming out of not having to sell players urgently and Solak saying we are in a position to buy players quickly if necessary.
Surely if it's a 3 year window that season is still on the record? Last 3 seasons have been 22/23 - relegation 23/24 - promotion 24/25 - relegation
Yes but that period ends this month, so as of 1/7/25 the 22/23 season comes of the new 3 year period I guess. Sorry not an expert only what I’ve seen and read, and like I said, there are a few reports out there now suggesting we are in a pretty decent position going forward. Rather be us than Leicester
Whilst I agree that it's a good thing that the three-year cycle ended 30 June 2025 is the last one to include the money we wasted in 2022-23, it is frustrating that we only have one year left of being able to include the big sales made in 2023-24. It feels like a massive opportunity wasted. The three-year cycle ended 30 June 2026 will be the only one which doesn't include 2022-23 but does include 2023-24. But we'll be spending the final season of that cycle in the Championship.
