Macca did a sterling job at left back. Jones looked lost at times without Greavsie. If we have to lose one of them it’d be Jones for mine.

For a CB by trade, he filled in well at LB when we didn't have anybody else (given Selles didn't trust Jacob there). But surely nobody is suggesting, hopefully they aren't, that we should go into this coming season with Macca as a contender for LB. He defended manfully, but came unstuck when faced with any pace & trickery, and we lose so much in terms of attacking.
I'd be happy for him to stay but only as a versatile squad player. Bit like Slater sort of thing. But maybe he now wants to be more than that?

If have no issues with him being back up lb and back up CB. If....my god if....we can find a decent lb who could start say 35 or so of next year's fixtures, I'd be content with Macca starting the other 10 or so, esp against teams where they play a direct style of which there are a fair few

That alone should have seen him get a 50% pay rise and an eight year contract.

After it has been bought in 2010s, it is a non-official, sub-Fenerbahce club, most of the boardroom are also member of Fenerbahce. Their last 2 coaches are Fenerbahce legends Alex and Emre B, they like to waste their money. in 2010s they brought names like Eto'o, Nasri etc.

So probably those transfers have other meanings than football. This kind of relationships (especially if smaller club is owned by a rich fella instead of managed by council) are common in Turkish football, for example Eyupsor and Samsunspor close to Galatasaray, meanwhile, Antalyaspor, Bodrumspor, Kasimpasa and Karagumruk has close ties with Fenerbahce.

I suppose only Goztepe is neutral these days, considering their history, it would be hard.

Göztepe are part of a multi-club ownership with Southampton. I’m guessing that also helps them remaining neutral domestically.

It helps for sure, but also historically they are one of the oldest clubs, first team who reached a semi final in European competition and unlike teams above, most importantly they have a heated fanbase. Except Samsunspor, all teams I mentioned above plays with 2K tickets average and most of those tickets are sponsored.

You would presume there's no truth in this as we just signed Semi, although he is left footed so maybe.

Interesting. I read a few days ago that Rijeka rejected bids for him and I wondered if we were one of the clubs.

Acun did say some players wanted to leave, maybe a left footed centre half fancies a move elsewhere. Pure speculation though.
