I heard con Talk Sport that EFL rules for the Championship say all teams must have at least a 10 year lease on their home grounds. Uh-oh...
Just to clarify, I heard a few seconds of an interview with Charlton's CEO (I think it was) on the radio at work this morning. I was told he talked quite a lot about ownership and the Valley. Subjects that have not been talked about much lately. I went onto the Talk Sport website looking for a link so members - including me - could listen in and get all the details. But I could not find the specific link. I imagine there is more detail and debate on this interview over on CL.
Reading on CL it was Tango Man who came out with it. Rick has just posted that our lease runs ahrt in 2035, and that the rule only applies to clubs joining the EFL. Rodwell is saying that they still want to buy The Valley, but moving is a possibility, because they want security of tenure.
Moving is totally unacceptable under any but the most unlikely circumstances. 1. Brand new proper stadium, not a flat pack house of cards. 2. Within 2 miles of the Valley 3. Capacity at least equal to 27,000, plus pre-planned expansion option to around 40,000 in the next few years. 4. No connections whatsoever to the Old Scrote, nothing owed to him anymore. 5. No groundshare. 6. Owned, not leased or rented. That little lot is likely to top £100m, so it isn't going to happen. Anything less should be rejected by fans.
