It tends to end in a family argument so a bit.

 

Palestine Action manage to break into a RAF base and vandalise planes and people really think we’ve got the resources or will to make any difference in a war.

39 MPs didn’t even use their ‘free’ vote on assisted dying today. OK 7 of them were Sinn Fein who don’t count, and I’m sure some of the others were ill or something but the majority of them should be kicked out immediately. If they don’t have an opinion on something like this what is the point of them? They could have just done the decent thing (as could all the 291 choice deniers who voted against) and done what 75% of their constituents want and vote in favour (of what is a very conservative and narrow bill anyway).

Looks like we won’t have a vote at all if we end up helping Trump bomb Iran though. Too important to allow MPs near that one.

 

At least the assisted dying bill got through. I've been sickened by some of the arguments against the bill based on religious grounds. So your (non-existent) God dictates that I may have to die in physical and mental torment because to elect to die sooner, thereby avoiding some of the torment, would displease Him (Her). **** off.

 

Hasn’t got through the Lords, and apparently lots of them think they are ‘allowed’ to kill it by submitting too many amendments to debate because the Commons majority was so slim. I suppose it would then go back to the Commons but would get no time as a private members bill, so effectively dead, no pun intended.

That will delight those charming bedfellows Streeting, Badenoch, Mahmood and Rayner. Probably because it distracts from their complete failure with health care, the Tory party as opposition, the justice system and house building.

And Just Like That, It’s Gone… Twenty years of clandestine engineering, scientific ambition, bloody regional conflicts, and roughly $1 trillion in investment, reduced to rubble in under an hour. The combined might of American firepower, aided by nine days of Israeli precision strikes, has obliterated Iran’s nuclear facilities. As of the past half hour, the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program is, effectively, no more. As I predicted on June 9th, and in later posts, this moment was coming. And now that it has arrived, the question is no longer if, but what next?

To understand what comes next, we need to picture Ayatollahs Iran not as a state, but as a child. A spoiled, volatile, disturbed child with a cruel streak - psychotic at times - who just watched his prized air rifle, the one he used to terrorize the neighborhood cats, shattered and bent beyond repair. Now, imagine the tantrum. Iran will lash out. It will try to break everything in sight - its proxies will ignite, its missiles will fly, and its rhetoric will be apocalyptic. There will be chaos. There will be pain.

In the short term, we should brace ourselves for a whirlwind of asymmetric retaliation, from the straits of Hormuz to Lebanon to the Red Sea, from Baghdad to the Golan Heights. From Yemen to the US regional bases. The regime, humiliated and cornered, will reach deep into its bag of dark tricks.

But here’s the glimmer of hope: in every violent tantrum, there is a catharsis. Sometimes, it is only after the worst scream that the child exhausts itself into silence. That’s the optimist in me speaking. That perhaps, just perhaps, this moment of destruction opens the door to a long-term recalibration - a chance for the region to breathe, for deterrence to be restored, and for a return to sanity. Yet, as with all wars, we must never underestimate the law of unintended consequences. One door closes. Ten more, darker and unpredictable, may open.

We’ve stepped into a new phase, perhaps a new era. The nuclear file is now a smoking crater. What rises from its ashes is what we must now anticipate, with vigilant open eyes and steady nerves.

He missed out Iran and its proxies lashing out thousands of miles from the Middle East.

Optimistic in a way, but when have things ever turned out right in that part of the world.

 

It’s the uranium they were definitely using for good reasons I feel sorry for.

 

Netanyahu's been banging on for 30 years about Iran being on the brink of having nuclear weapons. Presumably Israel will scrap its own nukes now.

 

Maybe. Presumably not unless Israeli Defence policy suddenly pivots to pandering to the wettest Europeans. They’ve made the world a marginally better place with this which we can all celebrate.

 

The world will be a better place when Trump and Netanyahu have gone. I'll celebrate then.

 

You won’t be alone. There’ll be street parties across the country. Socialist Worker-funded flags for everyone. Like it or not though they’ve achieved more in a couple of weeks than all the irrelevant, well funded organisations tasked with achieving nuclear disarmament with kind words have managed in years.

 

Netanyahu has spent decades trying to strong arm the US into an unprovoked war against Iran and finally found a President stupid enough to do it for him.

Thankfully no UK involvement at this stage.
