our 2 representatives were the 3rd and 4th best teams in this country so how could they be considered best in world
Only because you refuse to accept the validity of it. There's enough football already to sate anybody's needs. PL, CL, EL, FAC, LC, WC, Euros and their regional equivalents. Other competitions for less prestigious clubs, women's football, grass-roots at all levels. Nobody needs any more. All of these recently invented competitions are simply money-making exercises. One the one hand we have endless complaints about players being burned out halfway through the season, and yet we're supposed to support the ever increasing burden on them, and you don't see the connection between the two? They'll all be back for pre-season in a few weeks. They're athletes, not machines.
Well, if you're involved in sport, any sport, everyone gets humbled at some point. That wasn't the crux of my argument though. I just don't see this as a meaningful competition in any way. I was pleased when we won the previous version because I do think that once you're in contention then you should try and win it. I think we probably agree on that but even though we won, I still regard it as a sideshow trophy. It's always interesting reading other people's views, yours especially because I never know what you'll say next. At least you engage and address the argument without taking other views as a personal affront. When you say you hold back sometimes, don't. I really enjoy reading your take on issues.
That NZ team has already won the equivalent of the CL in Oceana multiple times. Coming home from the World Club Cup with a ton of money is only going to cement their dominance isn't it. So good for them, not so much for their competition.
True. I don't know whether SA countries are much of a muchness or if they have a lot of players from other parts of the world in their teams and leagues. They tend to be more passionate overall and I sort of put that down to them being more homogenous as an entity. I think, for some of us, our passion for the national team started waning at the same rate as the league became filled with players from outside of England. The national team no longer had/has the very best players from the league in it because the very best players in the league were/are foreign born.
So many to respond to in so little time will start here as least complex - the other might have to wait till I finish coaching lol yeah I agree with that And this is going to open up more on this topic But maybe the problem is that money going to the club Maybe a chunk to the club and a chunk to the development of football from that country maybe even chunks to the clubs and an even split across the grassroots of every group represented? do they are talking about 100m pot in this one So 5million for each grassroots area - still leaving 70mil prize money loads of ways you could do that sort of thing but then transparency becomes important
You say I refuse to accept the validity because you have your view on its validity We are diametrically opposed on this one - I respect your view, but my opinion is, that you could say that about all competitions Why not remove the the clubs involved from the league and FA Cup for that season to allow them to participate in CWC ? I would much rather watch a CWC than the league cup and FA Cup as both are predominantly the same utd whisked their squad to another continent to make money which tells you a lot again this goes into a different discussion I believe the CWC has potential and I believe a club should be aspiring to win it Just the way I am built but I have no issues with the ESL either I think it’s a natural progression to what we have I believe there are ways to make it work not saying this one is perfect - and haven’t even looked at the politics like I did with other WCs but I believe the comp has potential and should be something to enjoy just my opinion
You might be the only one who enjoys reading my tripe lmao Think a fair few figure I am off my face lmao I love reading all the other views tbh Love the board and everyone in it Apart from 3 posters who I think are just full of **** and they reside on other boards lmao
Women Super League to expand to 14 teams https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/womens-super-league-announces-plans-expansion-14-teams
You still haven't addressed the point I was making. It's too many games. Not for people watching perhaps - for the players. I don't care how entertaining it is, or could be - I do care about players running out of steam by February. You're gutted we're not in it, but I'm chuffed. Sadly, I'm assuming we will be in the future. Pointless internationals against inferior opposition, Nations League, expanded CL and EL, European Conference, now this - an inexorable increase in competitions throughout recent years. At what point do you think it's fair to say enough is enough?
