Remember when we were signing released players from the likes of Burton etc.... If you weren't going over when we were proper ****, you don't know what you missed. Stadium announcer telling us there were 16 thousand people the SOL when there clearly wasn't. Players coming in that couldn't believe their luck, managers stood in our technical area absolutely clueless, Ross Stewart stood 6 yards offside running up and scoring but the lino and the ref were still on the half way line because they were ****e. Humped off the likes of Burton,Fleetwood and Lincoln, mates telling us we were mad and mocking us for still going over "it's warmer in the pub".and "i wouldn't watch them if they were playing in the front garden. Players getting stick in Tesco.Netflix cameras in your face every week. Media didn't give a toss about us. Owenrs taking the piss out of us.Make no mistake about it, the few of us that were there during the dark days...we were on our own. Its easy to go over to the SOL now, but f**k me it was hard then. Fast forward to now, feel good factor back, full Stadium, links to mint players... that's the reward and the contrast is phenomenal.

Makes it all worth it mate. Wembley wouldn’t have felt as special without the ****e we have put up with. Credit to KLD, speakman and the staff. I’ve criticised them at points due to a lack of trust caused by previous heartache, but make no mistake about it, we are running a serious operation these days. We’re not just ‘back’, we’re serious again. We have a plan that clearly works and i genuinely believe the sky is the limit. The hard times make me appreciate this so much more. Never been more excited as a Sunderland supporter. KTF

In all this love in fest for the club...and isn't it great...our chairman has kept a really low profile, haven't seen any interviews, he's not made it about him he's just let the manager, staff and players take all the plaudits.

Can imagine he's diligently working in the background along with Speakman planning the summer transfer transactions, trying to ensure what we've achieved during his tenure isn't lost without a hell of a scrap.

Bang on. That freezing Boxing Day game vs that hotch-potch Bolton side made up of kids and old freebies that we just about managed to snatch a 0-0 draw from. Absolutely desperate. I upset a few OTR for saying similar, to me both Wembley wins mean more because I went when it was utterly awful. I even bought a season ticket the Covid year where we couldn't even go!

Need to remember this throughout the season. Even if we end up on 10 points, we're still heading in the right direction

The Krankies were at that game. We had seats right next to the dugout. My overriding memory was a supporter came running down the steps towards the end of the game, stood next to us and shouted “Parkinson, you’re ****ing ****e”. He was then grabbed hold of by a couple of stewards. It was an awful time to be a Sunderland supporter. An embarrassment that we as a club had sunk so low.

Shame we can’t get Emeagha similar profile in therms of height and build but more complete.

Chelsea have a reserved ticket on him though.

This post is so ****ing accurate, but it’s made me smile.

It’s staggering how far we’ve come. It became a ‘duty’ to be there not a passion.

Loads sat not watching game just messing about on phones. Wouldn’t go as far as numb it’s was still a stab when a Lincoln or whatever done us but it was grotesque.

Something changed even then though. I think credit him or not Johnson was the start of it. Felt a level up appointment, then came Clarke (was **** at first but we’d bagged a player from Spurs), Roberts.

I actually think going up through the playoffs was a godsend from League One the unity and scenes in London that weekend brought such a wave of bonding and camaraderie in the fan base. It’s dipped and altered in the 3 years since but it set a tone and foundation.

    From Wikipedia:

In November 2018 Cutler was appointed goalkeeping coach at Dean Smith's Aston Villa.[20] He remained in situ during Steven Gerrard's tenure but with the arrival of Unai Emery, it was announced on 31 October 2022 that Cutler had departed his role at Aston Villa after four years at the club.[21] After his exit, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez paid tribute to Cutler, calling him the "best English goalkeeping coach by miles."[22]

After Jack Ross bottled attacking and Parkinson totally desperate at least Johnson had the side willing to have a go. It meant we were incredibly open and there were some horrific results, but when it worked we battered some sides. We also won at Wembley.

Once Alex Neil came in and finetuned the side to actually defend properly off we went.

100% we were sometimes like Brazil under Johnson then we’d be like San Marino.

The way Neil left will always leave a sour but we can’t remove the credit and thanks for what he did.

Think he already shifted up when Doddsy left to be a more general coach.
