I just think what profile do you want for a lone striker? Lightening quick, strong, can finish, can make things happen by himself. Well I think mayenda does that, and he’s 20. If it was my call he’d be our no.9 next season, a risk of course and could be the wrong decision but that’s how I feel. I don’t want him playing second fiddle or moving out to the right (can do a job there too imo) I think he’s got what it takes to make it in a position that every club just about is struggling to find. Good problem to have though!
I agree. I think ours are both pretty close at the minute but Mayenda edges it for me and has 4 years on Isidor. His potential is wild, he would be my choice up top if I had to play one of them. Would be nice to have someone that’s noticeably better so there’s not as much pressure on Mayenda.
I do think Mayenda is ahead purely because he can do everything. Isidor is at his best off the shoulder where Mayenda offers that but he also can hold it up very well, links play, drives up the pitch, creates his own chances and can even win headers. We have two class strikers but Mayenda is special
Also I’m torn as I would love us to sign a class striker for a good fee but I don’t want Mayenda being second fiddle. I’d even give Mayenda the 9 shirt if he wants it
I just think people are underrating isidor cos his first half of the season was better than his second. Mayenda also got better and better. No doubting mayendas potential is off the scale what a discussion to have after struggling for strikers for so long
I don't think this would be as much of an issue as people make it out to be - the improvement he's shown over the course of this season hasn't been down to playing (less than half) of our games but the work that does in off the pitch will do more. Of course id still expect him to start plenty and get a lot of time but there is no reason to sign a striker who isn't good enough just to get him every minute - might as well improve. Also worth noting that both Mayenda and Isidor had muscle injuries this season and then we'd have nobody even remotely close to premier league level. I would want a first choice striker to come in who is also able to play in another position.
Abline would be the perfect forward to bring in alongside Mayenda and Isidor. Different skillset and can play out wide and in the 10. I think we need 3 forwards at least so that we can play the 442.
Aye I’m in the same boat but it’s a long season and it’s a lot to put on a 20 year old who’s only really going into his second full season in English football after how little he played before this. Be coming up against some very good CB’s next year I don’t think we’d go wrong adding to our squad and having someone he can learn off up top in training. Lacazette is a free agent isn’t he?
Don’t fully agree but that’s a fair point mate. Just think we have a budget that will be limited and striker isn’t a position I’d use one of our ~£15m signings on. Think other areas have more priority.
Wondering if you're thinking of Aaron Cresswell who is predominately left footed (jumped to my mind too)
Former coach of FC Lorient, Régis Le Bris has taken over the reins of a mythical club in England, Sunderland. Not the favourite for promotion to the Premier League, the French technician has performed miracles and thus offered the return to the elite of English football. To do well in the Premier League, he intends to strengthen and the Black Cats want to recruit at central defender. If the Lyonnais, Duje Caleta-Car is targeted, he is not the only Ligue 1 protagonist to interest Le Bris.
Don't know much about Cresswell but he's young and English so he'll be expensive but usually means you can still recoup your money so there's not much Toulouse on the deal
I’d like to imagine we’ll be adding at least 5 first team additions this window. One of those will be a striker surely? Patto, Hume, Ballard, Le Fee will be nailed on starters then potentials I’d have is Cirkin, Neil, Mundle, Mayenda. We can’t start all 8 of them because come Christmas we’ll have about 5 points. We need considerably better players in some of those positions especially the spine
I think I’ve just seen him playing on the left and made an assumption mate, my knowledge of players outside of Sunderland is terrible these days though, him, tanganga and miller I think are the only ones linked I’ve actually heard of
The latter appreciates the profile of Charlie Cresswell who is coming off a full season with Toulouse. The 22-year-old English defender, TFC's summer recruit in 2024, has quickly conquered Ligue 1 thanks to his physical impact, his reading of the game and his ability to score from set pieces. An ideal profile for Sunderland who could try a first approach in the coming days. Under contract until 2028 at Toulouse, he is currently valued at €10 million by the Transfermarkt website. Currently, Creswell is playing in the Euro Espoirs with the Young Lions and he scored in the first match against the Czech Republic.
