Sounds like it was enough of an impact to damage the survival cell. So lots of work for the mechanics and no Friday running for Charles!

Be interesting, and quite telling, to see how well he bounces back tomorrow.

Interesting first day’s practice, I don’t remember the last time the McLaren’s didn’t look quick out of the box? Lots of teams seemed to be struggling with their setup, so probably we’ll see things a bit more normal today, but perhaps with Merc as the leading challenger rather than Max?

It's a lot cooler than anywhere else so far, so maybe they're just having problems getting the tyres up to temp, maybe something ot do with how they keep their tyre temps when it's been hot is having an adverse effect.

I wonder if they have a bit of a compromise between tyre temps and keeping brakes up to temp.
Can't remember if Mercs like warm or cool temps, I think they like cooler track temps but I could be wrong.

No, you're right, I saw part of the presser yesterday and Antonelli was looking forwards to Canada because the cooler temp suited the merc.

Well that was exciting… really looking forward to tomorrow’s race. Merc race pace was strong on Friday, Verstappen has the top speed advantage and Oscar’s improved massively through the weekend, could be a genuine 3 way/team fight.

More widely, curious as to what people think about the “Vasseur out“ stories?

Generally I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by his Ferrari reign. Ferrari are definitely perfectly capable of shooting themselves in the foot, no matter who’s in charge. Having said that, I think you can point to some poor decisions and even more damningly a passiveness that’s inexcusable for a top end Formula 1 team. I don’t know who you replace him with, but honestly I think they need to pull the trigger even though I suspect some long term damage might already have been done.

I think if Vasseur had the option to turn back time , knowing what he knows now , he would jump at the chance .

He said the other day that in teams are allowed to operate on their own .

I took that to mean other Ferrari people were getting involved .
IF this is true , then they have regressed years , and it’s a real detriment to the whole race team .

I fear Vasseur may get the chop , but NOBODY will be allowed the freedom that is required to run the team independently ..

Great lap from George- Merc got a good car here and finally track temps that they can get tyres in the right zone at last.

Poor from Lando, mistakes under pressure leaving him compromised.

Good thing from a racing perspective is you’ve got Max, George, the Maccas all quite close on pace, with the potential for Ferrari to again make a step forward on a Sunday.

You’ve also got Kimi Antonelli in 4th if the front three are tripping over one another- an outside chance of following in Lewis Hamilton’s footsteps and a first career win being at Montreal perhaps.
