Swansea City is delighted to confirm the club has reached an agreement to sign Cameron Burgess, subject to international clearance.
The 29-year-old defender will become a Swansea player on July 1, having agreed a three-year contract, with the club having faced considerable competition in securing his services.
He becomes the fourth signing and fifth arrival of the summer to date, with Melker Widell, Zeidane Inoussa, Bobby Wales and Ricardo Santos already gearing up for their first seasons in Swans colours.
A vastly-experienced and proven centre-half, Australia international Burgess has just helped the Socceroos secure their place at the 2026 World Cup finals.
Born in Scotland, he was most recently at Ipswich Town, playing a key role in the Tractor Boys’ rise to the Premier League.
Burgess made 18 top-flight appearances last season, having been a first-choice starter during their League One and Championship promotion campaigns. Burgess also started in both of the East Anglian club’s wins over the Swans during the 2023-24 season.
Having moved to Australia from Scotland aged 11, Burgess returned to the UK with Fulham when aged 15 and went on to have spells with Ross County, Cheltenham Town, Oldham Athletic, Bury, Scunthorpe United, Salford City and Accrington Stanley before joining Ipswich in 2021.
He has over 300 league appearances under his belt, made 120 appearances in all competitions for Ipswich and has won 17 caps for his country.
Head coach Alan Sheehan said: “We are delighted that Cameron will be joining us at Swansea city.
He is an experienced and consistent performer that has seen him rise up through the divisions in the last few years and become a full international.
During our conversations Cameron really bought in to what we are trying to do at Swansea and I believe he will be a great addition for us on and off the pitch driving standards throughout the club, and we look forward to getting to work with him.”
Director of football Richard Montague added: “We are very pleased to have been able to add a player of Cameron’s pedigree and experience to our squad ahead of the new season.
“To bring in a player who has recently played Premier League football and been part of a successful period at his previous club is very positive.
“There was considerable interest in Cameron from a number of clubs, and we are delighted he felt that Swansea City was the right choice for him.”
Global head of analytics and recruitment, Adam Worth, said: “Moving into this summer we were aware of the need to try and ensure we complement the youthful element of our squad with players who are proven performers at this level.
“Cameron undoubtedly meets that criteria, and arrives with us fresh from playing in the Premier League with Ipswich.
“We are excited to see what he can bring to Swansea City in the coming season and the years ahead.”

Looks like it, with Santos signed as well. I think Darling's missed a trick here, as there's tangible excitement around the Swans' upcoming season.

He speaks well, really positive and the nearer the season gets the more excited I am! There is a definite buzz...
It’s telling that this new regime appears to have learned the lessons from previous transfer windows, and are doing their business early.
At least 3 of the 5 signings made should all be first choices.
Need another striker, and if O’Brien returns, it really would generate a great deal of hope, excitement and positivity

I think we need another centre back cone full back. I wouldn’t disagree with that, particularly if Sheehan wanted to experiment with / try a back three

I was told yesterday by my contact at the Club that apparently we had offered the same as Norwich - but he’s from Cambridge which is nearer Norwich than Swansea…..

Strange move. Must be higher wages. He'll regret this in a year when he could have had Premier League pay
**** him. Probably the most overrated player we had in our squad along with Grimes
unfortunately he never fitted iin to whatever system we used whilst he was here. He wasnt prolific on loan at Hibernian 7 in 28 ?
