Ehab was and is a dickhead. That being said, the best years in the club’s history in terms of success on the pitch came under the Allams. We were promoted to the Premier League twice, reached an FA Cup Final and qualified for European football for the first time. The club was also in a healthier financial position under Ehab’s tenure than it currently is under Acun and there was more attention given to the academy. There are pros and cons to both but on the balance of things, I’d say the club was in a better position under the Allams. I also don’t buy the ‘Acun loves the club’ line, personally. I think it’s just a populist PR campaign because he loves attention. Reminds me of Musk. Comes off very insecure.
What a couple of you 'got wrong' was making out that I'd said it was BS that we were bringing in a British coach. I didn't say that at all. I called BS on this thing, about the reason he's being brought in being so that we have Jak's successor in place; as first speculated on the podcast then added to on here by some. I call BS because that's my opinion, and because such speculation if not challenged easily becomes taken by many as fact in no time at all. To my mind, it's very logical, very easy to see why they would want to bring in someone (that isn't Daws) with indepth English / British football knowledge. -> "The difference is you seemed skeptical of us getting in a British manager." Eh? I'm not skeptical at all about that. I 100% believe that's what they are trying to do, I have no issue with it, I think it's very sensible. Exactly as I've posted.
I’ve no idea if Kalman is a teacher or not or how it came out he is But I think it’s tediously unfunny to use it as a slur about him and it’s not ****ing funny either
So if it’s your opinion for the reason this bloke is being brought when do we say that you’re wrong or right about it?
To be fair, quite a few posters on here are tediously unfunny in general at this point. It's so tribal that I'm now at the point where I just skim the vast majority because you can quickly tell based on the poster and from the first sentence or two what their overarching point is going to be and then there's always someone that gets the finger pointed at them at the end of it in the form of a dig of some sort, usually Acun. People are forever misinterpreting and adding their own conjecture to posts and statements in order to point score. It's boring. It's playground ****. It's boring. It's juvenile. It's boring. It's desperate and most of all, it's boring. Did I mention it's boring.
Under the Allams, the highs were the highest we've had, but the lows were bad. The relationship with the fans was ****ed after the CTID stuff, but at least things were going ok on the pitch until after the Playoff win v Wednesday, the whole thing unravelled. We started a PL season with Bruice walking out just before the start cos he wasn't getting supported, and we only had half a squad. We got relegated the same season and from then until until they left we had no meaningful investment in the squad despite selling all our best players for decent fees. Acun has made some decisions that have generally (but not unanimously) been unpopular in the pursuit of sexy football, and sometimes made us worse for it, but to try and compare him to the final 6 years of Allam is ****ing ridiculous.
The one thing I'll say about Ehab is that we were a 'sustainable' club under him. That is to say, our wages were below 100% of turnover and while some saw it as asset stripping, we sold players to fund the running of the club. Could they have drawn less from the club in directors fees? Absolutely. But the club was never a concern off the field under them (to the best of my knowledge).
Making Sir Steve Bruce leave was probably the single worst decision in the history of our football club as we’ve never recovered from it. We had the potential to be a Premier league regular. Why bother comparing them Judge acun on his own dealings. got the fans back on side Cheap tickets Playing wise tho it’s a ****ing mess nothing coming through now from the youth What was that ****ty statement about they’ve got to be ready as soon as or they’re gone? Manager merry go round is disastrous We circled the plug hole last season If Jak is gone by November we could drop this time Wages 140% of turnover all the signs are there of us being in the **** I think Kalman gets so ****ed off as some seem to ignore it all with least it’s not the Allams
I didn't comment on on the field, I was talking purely about our existence. It's a sad state of affairs that clubs can only be competitive on the field if they put their future in jeopardy.
The first 2 were easy wins which would give someone quite a lot of goodwill. The management merry-go-round I agree with. I wanted Selles to stay for the stability, as he did just about enough with a squad that was very limited in attack. We very narrowly avoided relegation but if you removed any mid-table teams best attacking threats for three quarters of the season, I expect they'd really struggle too. And let's be clear, having lost Greaves, Philogene and all the PL loanees that propped up the 23/24 squad, mid-table was realistically all that we could hope for. On paper, you take the large transfer fees, invest in some capable replacements (Hughes and Belloumi), and upgrade a couple of other positions, but we needed more as we were left with bare bones of a squad. The high wages is a concern though, and I'd wager that's why he rolled the dice again. He NEEDS us to get in the PL (or for someone to take the high earners off our hands)
Yeah I’m the same. Every time I bring up the negatives about the current regime it’s always “well it’s not the Allams”, “be careful or what you wish for” or the “grass isn’t always greener” I’m aware that like Syd has just said that clubs nowadays need to speculate and gamble a tad to move up the leagues and with only so many spaces taken up by parachute teams it really is a lottery to go up. That being said there’s little things that could be done better by the current regime. Things like investing into the academy more and other things that act as insurance for if this gamble on premier league football doesn’t work. But any criticism of the current regime is met with worried posts by some that we could be annoying another owner into doing an Allam or Chansiri
I hated the Allams as much as anyone. But I also think Acun is hugely flawed, and I am quite concerned about the future of the club under him. But it's still over the top to say he's as bad as the Allams. It's easy to forget how bad things were, the fact that even the good times on the pitch were so tarnished, like only half-selling our Wembley allocation because people were so disengaged. Or getting less than 10k at home games eventually (while they added 3k on to the figure every week to pretend that wasn't happening). It was a horrible few years, and by the end Ehab had just shrunk us down to being a League 1 yo-yo club with a budget to match. Like Chazz said, it's pointless comparing them. The best thing about Acun taking us over was that we never have to think about the Allams again. Judge Acun on his own merits alone.
