"Thomas will be joined from Brentford by Justin Cochrane (First Team Assistant Coach), Chris Haslam (Head of Performance & First Team Assistant Coach) and Joe Newton (First Team Coach Analyst), with Andreas Georgson (First Team Assistant Coach) arriving from Manchester United." No news yet on whether Brentford's tea lady is coming with them. Last one at the Gtech Community Stadium turn the lights out, please.
I don’t think he will be radical in anyway but I think the club were worried about the league form in the last season and half so wanted a ‘safe’ appointment. He’s done well at Brentford but this is a bigger job with a lot more scrutiny and expectations so will be interesting to see how he copes with it all
Redknapp, Pochettino, Ange were all more interesting for me. I think that he going to need to hit the ground running or there will be immense pressure on him from day one. He needs to win a cup or will have had a worse season the this ... that's a massive pressure. I wish him well obviously but am amazed at how the club has managed to completely deflate me after such a huge high of being at the lane 22 days ago watching us win win our first trophy in 17 yrs and first European trophy in 41 yrs...and am just waiting for it to all go the way of JM/Nuno/conte etc
It's the first time the first choice between both club and fans (Glasner a close second, mind!) has been hired since... well I can't remember when that happened last! Whilst I was tempted by Iraola, Frank's been who I've wanted since pretty much the turn of the year once I felt Ange's days were numbered so I really hope I've put my faith in the right guy. I think he could be really good for us so long as he gets backed and we keep key players. His methodical style to management where he looks to play the best system based on each opponent is something I'll be keen to see. A similarity with Poch is that he managed to coach his players to play different systems as well as different formations and that for me is always an impressive feat and a sign of a good coach. I think a 433/ 4231 will be his main choice here but I can see him utilising a 352/ 343 a fair bit too.
I haven't seen enough of frank and obviously he's done really well for brentford and had to play a certain style to progress them. Can't say i have ever found brentfords football to be expressive (more on the pragmatic side) so i'm unsure really how he will fit into the more expansive and progressive style that Levy prefers. He seems like a lovely bloke though and i remember him doing loads of really nice stuff for the child fans and underpriviledged at brentford.
I just think it's quite a low key appointment and probably all the better for it. Not a glamour name but someone who has impressed by going about their business in a quiet but very effective way. That's why it reminds me of Jol.
