An incredible musical talent for sure. The genius that almost singlehandedly - and inadvertently - opened the door for the progressive genre.

Although, I honestly cannot recall ever owning a BB or Wilson record - or choosing one on a streaming service.

That might change today! RIP <rose>

I will do - it has some great tracks on it, like Sail on, Sailor. Although thats the thing...I 'know' a lot of their music and appreciate his influence - just never stretched to actually following him as a fan.

Mrs B has an offer on her Blue Light Card, for up to 4 tickets for the Forever Now Festival at Milton Keynes (22 June), for just the booking fee ONLY.

    That's £2.50 per ticket....

The best Beach Boys songs are the early surfing, cars and girls songs. The later, more experimental stuff, much like with The Beatles, is an acquired taste.
Such pure melodies. A massive influence on so many of the bands I listen to.
But Wilson owes a massive debt to Chuck Berry - as The Rolling Stones. The best music is often plagiarised to some great extent.

There has been an outpouring of grief from Beach Boys fans around the world after the tragic news that Mike Love is still alive

I've got a tape of 'Beach Boys 20 Surfing Greats". It belonged to my old man, who played it when cruising around, looking for conquests, in a convertible metallic purple Triumph Stag...great car, but a bit of a mid-life crisis.

I used to nick the tape to play whilst skateboarding. It still plays, which is more than the old man and I can manage...<laugh><doh><wah>

On the Douglas McCarthy front, just to show how
influential the Front 242 / Nitzer Ebb sound +
vocal style was to the No Wave scene (which
rose a decade after the peak of EBM) :

which lead to Terence Fixmer, and the long-term
    Fixmer/McCarthy collaboration :

and some great collabs/remixes by prominent artists
in the No Wave scene :

Triumph Stag!! The up-specced Herald - but even less reliable!! <laugh> Loved the shape and it would certainly have been a pussy-magnate - when it was actually not stuck at the side of the road! <doh>

The engine was OK. It was the cooling system that was hopelessly inadequate. Typical British Leyland. A decent design ruined by 1 defect.

Just seen one today, between Margate and Herne Bay. Parked up and looked like that had been the case for a while...<laugh>

I remember seeing the Beach Boys at the Wembley mid summer music festival 1975, they came on as the sun was getting low , they played all the hits and had the crowd in the palm of their hands, next up was Elton john who proceed to play his new album that hardly anyone had heard before which triggered a mass exodus leaving only the diehards
