Dobbin still heads the list of possible Sainz replacements in the Pinkun yesterday (6/6). https://www.pinkun.com/sport/opinion/25218897.five-domestic-options-norwich-city-sainz-depart/
Maybe it wasn’t the newsletter, but I read somewhere that Dobbin was now going back to Villa to continue his rehabilitation from his injury, marking a step away from continuing his stay with us
Thanks, Suffolk. I'm not inclined to read too much into that myself. Could be down to nothing more than the exigencies of staff holidays, or Villa wanting to assess exactly where he is injury-wise prior to agreeing a fee with us, or whatever.
By the sounds of it any deal for him to return was likely to be another loan anyway. If there is interest in a potential transfer fee from elsewhere it would definitely make sense for Villa to bring him back and assess him, he’s there asset. I’m just not sure why he has been left with us for an extended period when everyone knew that he wouldn’t be back to fitness before the end of the season, we are now a month out of the season
Reported that Porto & Napoli have offered c. £12.5 for Sainz. Add another £3/4 million and think we've a deal
Reports that we have had a bid rejected for Leicesters current no.2 Jakub Stolarczyk PinkUn have confirmed that their is genuine interest in the 24 year old Polish GK. Personally I can’t see this one happening, he is being lined up to be Leicesters no1 next season with interest in Hermansen thought to be high.
Re. the Porto and Napoli bids for Sainz, "rejected" sounds a tad end of storyish? Going by various Pink'Un articles, negotiations were ongoing when the mini window shut, so both those clubs could be back in when the window reopens. Porto are involved in the World Club Cup and were trying to get a deal done beforehand.
If you include Reyes and Barden we already have more keepers than central defenders so obviously getting another keeper has to be the priority.
Also Robbie he is in the final year of his contract and can then walk away for free. It wouldn't be a smart move to piss him off by failing to agree to a deal with a Club he wants to join.
A bit needlessly pedantic Robbie, the bid hasn’t been accepted, ongoing discussions will continue until an agreeable fee is found. I didn’t say that the transfer was rejected just the opening bid. The opening bid was not accepted therefore rejected - as is the highly common term used regarding transfer offers.
Depends who you count as CBs as well I guess 1950. Duffy, McConville, Cordoba, Hills would equal the numbers and if you add Adeboyega then we have one more CB. One of Long, Reyes and Barden will certainly not be in the squad next season either through transfer away or a loan - I would suggest Long moves on permanently and Reyes gets another loan, Barden stays as 3rd choice behind Grimshaw and whoever comes in as No1
I would only class the first three you mention as squad CB's at the moment and of course there are 2 or 3 places places to fill depending the system we play. Long, for some inexplicable reason was given a lengthy contract on Championship wages. You can ' suggest Long moves on permanently ' but who would be interested in matching his current terms bearing in mind his error prone record here and at Millwall? It is likely that we are stuck with him. With 2 new GK's here plus Long neither Reyes or Barden have a future here - more money wasted! We have already bought one GK and I just cannot see that the priority for the next signing is yet another GK.
Ha! I actually suggested some time ago -- to much ridicule -- that Sainz might prefer to see out his contract. Indications are that he wants to go "home" to Bilbao.
Knapper's actual words on the position (at the Manning press conference, responding to Paddy Davitt's question): "There's big interest from particularly a couple of different clubs, but there's others circling as well. We've had formal proposals, but nothing's quite met our valuation. Those discussions are ongoing. Let's see how they conclude. Of course he's a player with big interest in the market, but it's still early, and as I said, it's got to be right for us." Was Knapper saying "we've rejected their bids"? What if Sainz goes to Porto for £12.5M plus add-ons?
