Would be great business to get Moreno and Kyle Walker-Peters both on a free, give Byram a small contract and we'd have good quality and cover in both full back positions and it wouldn't cost us any of our transfer budget
Word is you guys are interested in our keeper over at Chelsea, Petrovic. He had a great season on loan last year in Ligue 1 at Strasbourg, was voted keeper of the season. A Meslier replacement, I am told, since Farke and he have beef. A Leeds friend of mine says he is more than happy with Darlow as your no.1 keeper. What do you guys think? Word is Leeds value Petrovic at £10m and we are asking for £14m. But if a fee is agreed it looks likely. Keeper wants the move to Leeds so Maresca left him out of our Club World cup squad.
No disrespect but if he can’t be your No. 1 ahead of Sanchez, who is very poor, then it has to be a firm and definite no from me.
I definitely get what you are saying, but I'd have taken him this season as No.1 over Sanchez, he is better than Sanchez, the only reason we arent going to keep him is because we are looking to sign Mike Maignan, who, if he comes in, will be No.1 and Petrovic doesnt want to be a No.2 and so Maresca cannot guarantee him a first team spot so he wants to leave.
I'd be amazed if Farke keeps Darlow as number 1, he seemed reluctant to start him over Meslier, even after all the cock ups he made. It's believed he only made the change because of pressure from above. A new keeper is priority and if Petrovic is as good as you say, then we'd be stupid to risk losing him over a few million.
Darlow had little to do in last six games. Two or three shots per game to deal with, any decent keeper would have done as good, Well probably face ten or fifteen shots a game in pl so a different calibre of keeper required
Darlow had little to do but he made some good saves, collected some crosses, couple of rushes of blood but at least he committed. Night and day to what was going on with Meslier. would I like a better keeper? Yup. I’ll say this though… it can be very difficult to differentiate between keepers … it’s not like outfield players. Fans tend to focus on the great saves. But Positioning and judgement are more important than amazing reflexes. The most important thing is someone who does the basics right… and someone who doesn’t have fragile confidence. Whoever we have will be busy. it’s also very important they can play out from the back… people may not like it but it’s critical to how we play.
Fair enough but why was he loaned out if he’s better than Sanchez? Have to be honest and say that I know nothing about him.
He needed more game time and I guess Maresca felt he wasnt ready to be first choice goalkeeper. But like I said, he went to Strasbourg in Ligue 1, kept like 12 clean sheets in 30 games and was voted keeper of the season, so he proved, albeit in a different league, that he has what it takes. In short he has developed and he rose to the occasion, and I will be sad to see him leave.
I’ll have to take your word for it. I haven’t seen one game that he played in last season, not even the highlights of his club’s matches.
He's not perfect but he's better than we currently have. Maybe someone can get the stats up. Should be an easy comparison.
