Denis Law has died aged 84 - RIP

Great player for Manchester United and Manchester City. The team with Best, Law, Charlton etc was one of my favourite teams.

 

Had the honour of meeting Denis Law my boyhood hero. A genuinely modest man. RIP Denis.

You won’t find three better world class players in any club team in history.

 

You are probably right, even when you look at the Liverpool team dominating Europe in the 80's.

 

Sad to read that Patrick Barclay has died today - an outstanding football journalist.

 

RIP Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy and their dog.

My favourite actor. The French Connection is utter perfection.

 

RIP Boris Spassky. Bobby Fischer Goes To War is a great read.

 

I was really shocked to hear this. Such a sad situation. RIP Gene, Betsy and their dog.

We owe them everything.
The Hawker Hurricane (which Paddy flew) was the ultimate 'Bomber killer', downing Luftwaffe Heinkels, Dorniers and Junkers Ju88's.
The Supermarine Spitfire, bred from 1930's racing planes, quirky and difficult to land, but it was supreme in fighter-to-fighter combat.
And the men who flew these machines; British, Polish, Czech pilots and men from other Nations too,
the bravest of the brave.
We will never see their like again.

Fought when boxing was to be respected and when it was honest.

Always came across as a nice man.

RIP Brian Wilson. A true legend.

 

A genius, pure and simple.

I had the good fortune to meet him before his show at the Festival Hall some years ago. Very shy and gentle. He signed my programme, which is much treasured.

His music will live on forever.
